I have been doing this wrong sometimes. I have often tried to force going up in weight, when i should wait for the current weight to be too light…

You can read the Starting Strength book if you didn't understand

Whatcha think of throwing in heavier burn outs after your powerlift top sets to still build muscle on strength day?

Honestly i "slack" on lower body hard compared to everything else... Yet my gains have contenuously been going up. I wonder if the lack of volume has actually been helping me and if i should tone back the spam sets ive been doing on upper stuff

Adding weight does cause you to get stronger through forcing your body to adapt; not immediately but it provides a greater stimuli your body needs to adapt and become stronger so you can perform that task next time or perform it easier next time. Its either adding weight or adding volume with the same weight

Thays because just adding weight doesnt result in a stimuli necessary to illicit a adaptation. This assumes all factors stay the same, like reps and sets. We can make the opposite arguments and suggest that a lighterweight for more volume doesnt suggest you will get stronger in your 1RM. Its best to think "does the stimuli illicit a response or not", and then there is the issue of specificity.

How do we know if we adapted to given volume/weight and we can modify it?

The only way for me to get stronger is by forcing progression or more weight on the bar. If not, I resort to double progression to fill out the desired the reps and sets or keep using the same weight until it becomes light (step loading).

Could you give us an example of you progressive load then?

Are heavy singles the best way to tell you're getting stronger, if the majority of your training is submaximal in nature
