Not all guitars are created equal, but you can absolutely find some killer guitars that are budget friendly. You don't have to spend tons of money to have great tone, if you know what you're looking for you can buy a cheap guitar that punches way above its weight class, which is exactly what I did in this video.

Hey Rhett, I was the kid that you met before you started filming thanks for taking the time to take a picture with me it was nice to meet you!

I used to go to pawn shops to buy cheap, no name guitars. Then I took them home and practiced upgrading them - tuners, pickups, pots, etc. It was a good way to learn how they were constructed and wired.

I bought a $169 tele-style guitar, spent $90 on a new nut and setup, and I. Freakin’. Love it.

Rhett: “I want another guitar, i’ll just make a video about it so this purchase seems justified”

Cheap guitars (or cheap instruments in general) are the unsung heroes in all of music. The number of famous artists who never would've or could've gotten into music if they hadn't found a cheap one is probably astronomical. I started with a 100 dollar knockoff from Amazon and then bought a Squire a year later, once I had found my bearings and decided that I wanted to pursue guitar further. If it hadn't been for cheap guitars, I never would've started playing.

Bought a cheap but decent-playing strat copy. I love it because I feel absolutely no guilt in modding the electronics in unorthodox ways, routing the cavities, throwing it around a bit more, taking it outside, whatever.

It's now my go-to for jamming and practicing. Easy to play because it's a strat, lots of sounds to mess around with.

man, I think in the future you, and people like rabea, mary spender, paul davids and a few others, will be studied as an outstanding example of artists and how to couple video and music content in a manner that is wildly entertaining, while being massively educating and informative as well. I don't even play guitar and I'm always delighted by your videos, mate. big love from Brazil. Cheers

the longer you play guitar you start to notice that a good guitar is a good guitar and it doesn't matter what brand logo is on the headstock

YES! I'll shout it from the rooftops. Danos have a super unique vibe and sound. Also, the orange flake looks sick. The middle position sound is my go to sound on the Dano.

Awesome stuff! I have had amazing luck with the mid range Epiphones, modding and upgrading and trading parts. It has become a super fun hobby.

I love inexpensive guitars, I have owned several for all the reasons you mentioned. However for modding I prefer the MIM Fenders over the Squier... used they are in the same price range, but nearly all of the parts are interchangable with every other Fender guitar. My Tele was built from parts with a new MIM Fender neck and has Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups... I couldn't buy another one this nice "off the rack"!

6th reason to buy a budget guitar: you can't afford the expensive ones.

The Danelectro is not a cheap guitar, it's an inexpensive guitar. I got one (Go Go Blue colour) a few years ago and I absolutely love it. The only negative thing is the stacked tone/volume knobs. If you move one the other moves as well so you have to hold one in place while you adjust the other. It doesn't bother me as I usually just set & forget.

The Classic Vibe Squier's have gotten very impressive. Nice necks. They make great mod platforms. I bought the semi-hollow Starcaster and upgraded the wide-range pickups, pots, and nut and now it just kills. I have guitars that cost 5 times as much and I find myself reaching for the Starcaster more often than any other lately. It sings. Now all I need is the new Bigsby pedal! (there's no bottom to the rabbit hole)

Thanks Rhett!! From both you and Rick I learn sooo much. I am so incredibly grateful. Everything from music theory to what equipment, amps and setups, tone etc, how to listen to music to enjoy it more deeply or just to learn. Immense gratitude. I have a Lotus Les Paul knock off I got for $40. I had it set up, new switch, pots and put a pair of Dominger hand wound humbuckers in it (Whiskysippi and a '58Custom). Wow! An amzing guitar for under $200. The discount route sure is a good way to get unique stuff. One mans trash is another man's treasure. Thank you! ...And please please keep doing what you do.

Are you kidding me right now? I literally just purchased the Danelectro 59m nos+ in blue metalflake on Reverb and then 30 mins later this video pops up. How timely!

Very nice that you support the local dealer. I love these local music shops. They are usually treated very personally and well advised there, even if the choice is not always very large.

My first guitar was a Danelectro DC-3 with a nifty fifty amp. I still have it more than 20 years later, and it's one of the best sounding guitars I own.
