Install OpenWRT 21.02 & DSA VLAN Configuration for WAN Interface

The first stable release of the OpenWRT 21.02 stable series is now available. It comes with a lot of new changes, for example WPA3, TLS, HTTPS and initial DSA support for some of the targers, including ath79, mvebu and ramips (mt7621). At the same time, the Switch page had been removed and we need to configure VLAN on Network - Interfaces - Devices Tab.

In this video, we will install OpenWRT 21.02 on the Linksys WRT1900AC. After that, we will configure the WAN interface in DHCP client mode on VLAN 30. You can follow this tutorial to configure PPPoE with VLAN on OpenWRT 21.02, all you need to do is change the Protocol of the WAN interface to PPPoE, instead of DHCP.

Thanks for your video! Just to let you know your steps on creating WAN interfaces through DSA have now been added to the official documentation. The docs were originally written using swconfig examples, but these are no longer valid for many routers using DSA.

Your video allowed me to convert my own swconfig setup to DSA and I've also gone ahead and broken down the steps in your video into instructions for others in the "Creating additional WAN interfaces" section.

Hello sir, pls it´s not clear if vlan should be added under devices menu as a device or under br-lan /configure=> bridge VLAN filtering, as we use to do under version 19.x switch menu. Would u kindly clarify, pls?

openwrt really is an multifunction firmware. its really great. And now i bought an cctv for my home and i want to know if my cctv can be manage from openwrt? this cctv is an wifi cctv so its connect to a network, i already try to acces the ip but it not want to be oppened

Nice turtorial but how to assign vlan to port? for example lan1 or lan2? seems it's impossible by this method because by default you do not have lan ports on interface tab. You have to add it manualy.

What is DSA feature, my device is also ath79, but switch option is enabled, its a tplink-c6-v2. Not sure if DSA support is there or no.

It is so sad in WRT-1900ACS, they removed the Switch tab by default. I think you may have to activate it manually, anyways it still serve my purpose without Vlan. Keep up the good video!

Hi, is it possible to setup an openwrt router with a cloudflare warp client? I intend to use it as a bridge for all my lan devices, to route all traffic through cloudflare wireguard tunnel. Haven’t seen any tutorials on how to do this, would be great if you can help! Thanks
