Deaf people struggle to find jobs

Oldie but a goodie, and important. Trying to find more stable work now that I’ve been in Omaha for nearly half a year and while I have more hopes of finding that in Omaha than a little ol’ North Carolina town, adding in my chronic pain and fatigue does make it a little more challenging. But fingers crossed I find more stable work for my own business or find something that involves working for someone else (in the traditional sense).

Did you know that deaf people are severely unemployed or underemployed? A large percentage of society will not hire deaf people. It took me 4 years to get an interview- for Chipotle- and that was an ableist experience. (I didn’t get the job.) We need to fix the system and stop discriminating against deaf people. Become more accessible and accepting. Deaf people can and need work.
