As has become tradition, we conducted a handful of drag races at the 2020 iteration of our annual Performance Shootout. The contenders in this fight? Well, while they each cost a little more than R1-million, they’re also very different animals. Yes, we lined up the special-edition Ford Mustang Bullitt (here offering 338 kW from its naturally aspirated 5,0-litre V8, linked to a six-speed manual gearbox) against Toyota’s GR Supra (with 250 kW thanks to its BMW-sourced turbocharged inline-six, mated with an eight-speed automatic).

The nomal GT with 10 speed automatic would have killed the supra, or a driver in the Bullit who knows how to use a manual gearbox.

I've got big love for the Supra but I was sceptical that it would win

To make it fair they should’ve opted for the 10 speed automatic in the mustang so the variable of a bad driver in the mustang isn’t as big.

I do not believe it. All the camera cuts are fishy. The Mustang looked like he let off it mid race. This stinks to high heaven.

Now that was really unexpected. Thats how far torque converter gearbox's has come. They are dual clutch fast these days. Every time the Mustang Bullitt has to grab another gear it looses some ground on a much less powerful Supra with an 8 speed auto. I wonder how fast the 10 speed auto Mustang would be. I suspect it would be faster and even faster than the Supra.

The driver is so bad I have a mustang bullit and it runs 12.2 do that race again but have a better driver
