Dodge Viper v Mustang GT v Shelby Cobra: DRAG RACE

It's time for an all-American SHOWDOWN!

We've got our hands on a Dodge Viper GTS, a Shelby Cobra replica and a Ford Mustang, and they're about to go head-to-head over the quarter mile to see which comes out on top!

But how do the three compare? Well starting with the Mustang, it's powered by a 5-litre V8 that can produce 460hp and 527Nm. This power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 6-speed manual gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,808kg. When new in 2019, the Mustang would have cost around £55,000.

Next up we have the Dodge Viper. It comes equipped with an 8-litre naturally-aspirated V10 that creates 456hp and 664Nm. As with the Mustang, the power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual, and it weighs in at just 1,595kg. As new, the Viper cost around £69,000.

Then finally we come to the Cobra replica. It's powered by a 5-litre Ford Coyote V8 that can put down 460hp and 569Nm. As with the other cars, it's power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual, and it's also scarily light, tipping the scales at just 835kg! If you want to grab one of these, it'll cost you a cool £195,000!

So will the lightweight power the Cobra to victory? There's only one way to find out... LET'S RACE!

Oh my God, this was so beautiful I nearly cried. Please do more cars like this. Not a single car with softlimiter, but what they do have is GLORIOUS exhaust noises and some mechanical fun. Just look at the face of Mat. Smiling all the way while rowing through gears 😀 You don't get that kind of fun in electric and automatic cars with crazy horsepowers.

A Gen 2 Viper has been my dream car since I was 12 and played GT1 on PS1. I’ve owned a 2000 ACR for the past few years and absolutely love it. I see the Viper as an American TVR, a bit crude but striking to look at and a blast to drive.

THIS is my kinda drag race. The Cobra is my absolute dream car, the first time I rode in one, I cried tears of joy. It is truly the most visceral, amazing car I've ever experienced and I'll never forget it.

The vibrations on the windshield cam on the cobra @8:29 are next level. So this is what all CGI movie effects are trying to look like. The sensation of speed is awesome. Can't imagine what is to actually race the car. Awesome race and soundtrack.

Awesome race! The Viper did better than I expected keeping up with the Cobra at "lower" speeds! It also did way better than I expected from the 3rd gear roll, considering it could have started in first gear at 50mph.
