New Mustang V8 v BMW M2: DRAG RACE

We’ve got our hands on the all-new Mustang GT, and it’s about to go head-to-head against a BMW M2 Competition!

On paper, the two of these cars look pretty evenly matched, but will it play out like that over the quarter-mile? Let’s take a closer look.

Starting with the M2, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that can produce 480hp and 600Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels only, and the car weighs in at 1,805kg. When new, an M2 Competition would cost around £63,000.

As for the Mustang, it’s packing a glorious-sounding 5-litre naturally-aspirated V8. In the UK, the only Mustang you can buy puts down 453hp and 540Nm. However, we’ve got our hands on a US import, meaning the car we have here produces 486hp and 567Nm! Just like the M2, the power is sent to the rear wheels only, and the car weighs 1,738kg. In the US the Mustang costs $45,000, but if you’re looking to buy one in the UK, the price increases to £55,700!

So the Mustang is slightly up on power, but the M2 has launch control! Will that prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Stop manual shifting the 10 speed .. that’s the beauty of it .. tap the traction control button twice for sport advance track and let it shift itself

Fun fact: if you attempt to manually shift a 10R80 you're gonna short shift it or bounce it off the limiter..maddening

2 things. 1 leave Mustang transmission in automatic mode and use Drag Mode for best results. 2 BMW usually underrates their engines, plus turbo cars are typically faster than NA cars with similar power as they usually make more torque throughout the rev range.

As someone with a UK version of the previous gen Mustang, just put it in drag mode, leave it in drive, floor the throttle and let it shift by itself...

1. But the car on drag mode
2. Turn off advance traction control.
3. Get in the gear you agree on while rolling and hold it.
4. Hit the gas
5. Slap the shifter into Driver and watch the 10r80 do its magic.

That's how u roll race in a 10r80.
