Sorry I couldn’t be there to comment live. But a couple of thoughts…

1. If you want to GET trust, you have to GIVE it first.

If you want your people to trust you, you have to show them that you trust them. Give them opportunities to do good things, notice when stuff works, make sure they know you have their back when things don’t work.


2. It’s the manager!!!

Yep. (You’re allowed to play the “new guy/gal” card for a short minute. But.)
If someone on your team isn’t performing either you’re not making your expectations and boundaries clear enough, or you’re not really giving them the resources they need to do what’s required, or you should be performance managing them.

They might be at fault. But it’s your responsibility to encourage, empower, challenge, support, clarify, goal-set, priority-shape… and ultimately, only if absolutely necessary, manage out.
