How to fix missing desktop icons in Windows 10

Thanks a million. This information worked for me. I have a laptop with 2 additional monitors. All I had to do was unplug the additional monitors then plug them back in again to my laptop. I didn't have to install any new drivers. This restored all my icons.

I had lets say 30 icons. I only lost let's say 8. The rest are still there. Any ideas?

For Taskbar Icons use this:
1. Through File Explorer go to C:\Users\*Your USER ACCOUNT*\AppData\Local. (make sure hidden files/folders are visible)
2. Delete iconCache.db (hidden file)
3. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
4. Restart Windows Explorer (alternatively, you can reboot the PC)
5. The icons should be back to normal.

Here's what's actually going on:

0:27 Your harddrive is pretty much full. You need to clear up space. Icons on Windows 10 will stop loading if you are near your storage limit on your harddrive. For me, it was I accidentally left my Shadowplay recording a video for 2 hours without noticing. Deleted the video, refreshed my folder, bam, all icons instantly load.

The fix you are showing here is basically FORCING the icons to display.

my issue was on a single monitor i just restarted the pc one time and lost all shortcuts lol, i blame cloud sync thing, it used to reset my logitech settings as well

in windows 10 make sure your (right click+view+Show Desktop Icons ) tick or note

I have a problem. On windows 10, it acually looks sort of like windows 8. when I go to desktop, it shows just my backround. When I click, it brings up the windows 8 looking startup. Any ideas?

You mentioned multiple monitors. I minimize a video I had on the other monitor. There the bloody missing folder was. XD

The problem that I'm have, is that the Microsoft word icon disappeared from the task bar and I still can't find it when I search for it
