How to Self Care: The Ultimate Checklist

Sometimes everything is awful and you’re not okay. That’s okay. Here’s the ultimate self care checklist to help you get through it. It was designed by Eponis Sinope to help battle depression, but I think it’s useful for anyone. (Re-enactments my own).

Special thanks to Daniel Alfaro for shooting/directing me practicing self care!

I have this video saved in my favourites for evenings such as tonight. In 20 minutes I have gone from crying on the couch to fed, watered, stretched, washed face, into pajamas and bed. With evening meds on board and some clean dishes back in cupboards. I hope more people keep using this video to halt/remedy/reduce discomfort. :)

This is brilliant! And it reassures me to know I'm not the only one who falls into the depths of despair & then suddenly feels better after having a sanwich

I really thought that this was going to be a list of more stuff I should try and fit into my day. So glad it's not. Once again you show you truly care. Great stuff.

I have ADHD and recently started working at home. The fact I no longer have to commute but I get hyper focused because I love my new job kills my self care and causes anarchy. This is perfect. Every single part of this video is a great reminder. Also I think you should do a morning routine video. Morning routines have a huge effect on me. With a morning routine ADHD becomes a super power without the morning routine it becomes a curse. Thank you for the video.

Edward needs a youtube channel so I can appreciate him more. That cuddle scene was absolutely perfect.

One thing that helps me avoid getting too down on myself is remembering to forgive myself for not completing my to do list or even a specific task. I'm giving it 300 pts in Epic Win because it's hard to do.

Wow, it's hard to believe this is 5 years old. I've bookmarked it and come back to it on rough days when 'somewhat sentient lump on the sofa' is the best I'm managing. Today was one of those days, and it still helps. Knowing someone else who goes through it is the one giving the advice is a huge part of why it helps. I'm still not 100% by any stretch of the imagination right now, but I've taken a shower and eaten real food, I've hugged a cat, sat in the sun, and I'm writing this... so...leaps and bounds better than 3 hours ago. My brain still doesn't want to, but I've done it. Thank you. For today and for many others.

It's 11:42 AM, i'm unbathed, in my piyamas, haven't eaten or drunk anything, and I have at least 5 things to do before I go to work at 2:00 PM.

I guess I needed this.

I always had lists like this on the wall next to my bed to have like an action plan for when my brain shut down. Like for example what steps to follow in case of a panic attack. However I think this list is great and much more complete than the ones I used to do. I'm printing it out and putting it next to my bed. I added: "Are you overwhelmed by overthinking/Having too many thought at once? Let yourself go and write it all down on your notes app." That one has been really helpful for me, I hope it's helpful for someone else too.

This is 1000% what I "accidentally" fall into without realizing it. You're amazing for this video!

I am not ADHD diagnosed, I'm being treated for Major Depression only, atm... I find a lot of your videos helpful, my brain just accepts the way you explain things and then I understand myself better. Thank you, and keep up the fantastic work!

I'm so happy for my sister introducing me to this channel, I'm going through a shit stage myself and I'm slowly getting better and this video came out at the perfect time.

This is amazing! I have panic disorder and depression, my 10 year old is gifted and has ADHD. I'm saving this for those moments/days/weeks when everything is just hard and we need someone to tell us what to do to feel better 😊

I clicked this video thinking it was made in 2020. Still the perfect video for this year

Thank you!!!! Your video came at just the right I watch older clips of your show when I am really stuck! I also try writing cheery emails to friends and family in the states. Sometimes correspondence reminds me, "Hey, I'm meaninful! I do stuff!" What's mundane to me is sometimes interesting to people who don't see me too often.

Number ??: has something happened, something big, something that has no way out, no solution however much you rack your braains, and thus everything is icky ? - like person in flat below is having water coming through their ceiling and Council people are banging on your door, wanting a nose about your flat but it is in such a state, or you've got to move to somewhere temporary whilst work is done but you've got soooo much stuff and much is delicate and the thought of stranger hands touching it all is a no-no (for example). Give it 5mins. Just 5mins of not thinking about it, listening to a song or going for a walk. For me this time helps the initial OMG fire-alarm-going-off-in-head type feeling that is overwhelming. Once it has past, which it always does, I can settle down and make a plan (Council didn't know I was in so I had 1/2 a day to tidy, and turns out I had a year to pack and I box-up like a boss.)

^ a tl/dr thing so could probably have benefited from a tweaking and a condensing :)

btw: a fidget - squeezing the top of a pringle I know, wowzers, right ?! :D

Laugh. Listen to comedy. Laughing for just a couple minutes could turn your whole day around.

i always love how silyl these videos are and how much effort went into making them not only informatie but also fun to watch.
although I'm not saying that every video needs to be funny or have a ton of effort put into it, i just thought this one was extra special

Beautiful! To-the-point focus on the very real, human basics. These are similar to reminders crisis hotline people sometimes give people. They often end the call by first asking what your short-term plan is for say the next few hours. That can often be a great strategy for people having any number of challenges (ADHD, anxiety, triggered, blue/down, life stressors, in a slump, overwhelmed, etc.) - take it an hour at a time, check in with getting very basic physical and emotional needs met enough if they're not yet. Little actions can make a big difference sometimes: healthy snack, shower, drinking water, stretching outside for five minutes, a few jumping jacks, or whatever else.
