Pro tip don’t use JB Weld on a dirty surface, clean the surface and prep it for maximum hold. Remember there’s a SET time and a CURE time too👍🏾🤦🏾‍♂️

I have repaired 3 gas tanks with JB weld and it worked well.

You can fix almost anything with JB weld not even joking. Down to a cracked transmission bell housing or externally cracked engine block, transfer cases, differential housings, non load bearing brackets, exhaust systems, body panels and yes even gas tanks. I have used JB weld steel stick and metal reinforced on so many different applications that it shouldn't have worked on and it worked so much better than expected im almost about to try to use it to put my life back together.

I wouldn't say that JB Weld would not have worked for that specific application, however that surface is way too dirty to think it had any chance of bonding to the metal surface to begin with. I'd take a wire wheel to that surface, wipe it down with some brake clean and blow it out with the compressor if you can. Should bond to the clean debri free surface just fine and once cured the fuel should have no negative effect on the JB Weld. I used it to patch a small hole in my passenger diesel tank on my GMC Topkick flatbed truck and never had an issue.

I call bs. I refurbished a Harley. And had a whole in the gas tank after scrubbing and cleaning it. cleaned the metal up to shiney on both sides and held up for years. And even in a wreck tank dented to shit still didn’t leak from the spot with the job weld.

Clean proper, wipe down a second time and make sure surface is completely dry. When applying the JB weld ensure to 100% seal up the area and that would last year's like that.

JB weld makes a fuel tank epoxy that can withstand the fuel. I repaired a fuel tank with it on my buddies Yamaha R1 like 4 years ago and it’s still holding just fine. He put the wrong mounting bolt into the fuel tank and it was too long and punched a good 7mm wide hole in the tank. Took down the paint with a wire wheel, cleaned the area with brake cleaner, drained all the fuel, and followed the instructions on the package. I don’t see why it wouldn’t last another 4 years.

I repaired the gas tank on a Stihl chainsaw, limb had knocked a hole in it . Used the JB weld and used the chainsaw for another 5 or 6 years cutting firewood every fall . never leaked !

I fixed a hole on a gas tank I got at a junk yard . Put a screw on it and put jb weld over it no leaks at all

I think the marine jb weld is marketed to withstand solvents better. But, I used a different adhesive all together for fuel system related issues. Permatex #1 it's an anaerobic adhesive. It isn't that strong but it is resistant to gasoline. I think the flexible one is better (I believe that's #2 but I am sure if you peruse the store you can find something appropriate by reading the labels).

Not that that is an appropriate fix for everything...

The previous owner should have wire brushed and used acetone. If it's possible, then I would braze it. If only there was a way to get chemical reactions to back up.

Thats JB weld for metal not plastic 🤦🏻‍♂️

JB weld has a putty that fixes those issues for plastic tanks they also have a Marine weld that works great. This guy just used the wrong JB Weld Product made for metal. 😂
