In this video review of the 2020 Ford Expedition, we show the exterior, interior and go for a drive while discussing our 5 good/bad things about Ford's full-size SUV. Is it good enough to convince buyers to pass on the new Chevy Tahoe? Probably not, but it isn't that far behind.

we have 2 expeditions, 1999 4.6L and a 2004 5.4L, the engine died in the 1999 at 289, 000 miles only due to neglect, we replaced the engine now its at 389000 miles original transmission, the 2004 5.4L is at 234, 000 miles, original drive-train and everything still works, both have very reliable

You can switch the turbo gauge for transmission temp in the advanced settings. See how it compare to the Tundra.

Owned 2 GMC Yukon Denali over the last few years. Both were very unreliable. Had a 2009 and a 2016. Sold them and made the switch to the expedition. No complaints here. Way more reliable. 30k miles a year.

I drove Tahoe's daily at work and they were complete garbage. I bought my wife an Expedition and I love it.

Hey Tim nice review, thanks again but I have 2 things about the don’t like 5. 1. USB outlets, they do make a USB splitter which will save you from an argument with the wife, but I agree in a vehicle that expensive they could provide them. 2. The fuel mileage. You should have filled it up before the test. You mentioned they brought it with a full tank but the gage will read full and still be 3 gallons from the pump clicking off. So you really don’t know for sure and 3 gallons on you math will make a difference . As I mentioned in the past I have a 3.5 and the last 6 fill up I have been averaging 22.4, but that has been about 75% highway driving @70.. And one last think, still watching for that Explorer ST review.. Just keeping it out there so you don’t forget.. Have a great weekend and thanks again.

Pretty awesome vehicle Tim. I think the gen2 3.5 ecoboost is one of Fords best light duty engines right now. Ultimate family hauler in winter conditions. I'm not sure who would actually off road one of these with the price, so independent rear with no articulation is a non factor IMO. I'd have this one over the GM just due to the frame wax situation and the salt around here.

You need to test in the winter time. I'm curious how easy these independent suspension "4wd" get stuck in the snow.

Actually since the new Expedition redesign in 2018, its sales figures have steady climbed, while the Tahoe has fallen. As of this year 2021, the Expedition has surpassed the Tahoe in sales. They are of course both excellent SUV's, but the Tahoe even with its latest design has fell on its face in comparison to the Expedition.

It’s surprising you hit the manufacturer mpg average. Those numbers are determined in IDEAL conditions with the lightest weight 2WD offering they have. I usually get 2mpg’s less than the advertised amount, even with reserved driving habits.

just watched the TfL channel they were showing the Tahoe z71 ...
they talked about the auto locker they said they were unable to get info on the locker...
so they put the vehicle on a section that would activate the auto locker ....
they were trying to see to if it would activate... and it did not so evidently there are no lockers on the Tahoe.... where the expedition has one strange

Try checking the transmission fluid.... they don’t have a dip stick anymore.

Better than the 2020 Tahoe? Absolutely, by a country mile. But the new Tahoe brought its A-game. The Z71 is a real beast compared to the FX4. And the High Country finally makes the interior somewhat luxurious, though the Yukon Denali really ups the ante. Ford will need to add the new 2021 F150 updates here as well, but I feel it could be years off since this vehicle just came out in 2018.

How to turn on 4H mode like on Ford Expedition 2014-2017 ?

Expedition payload ranges between 1400-1800lbs depending on trim and options. If you are serious about towing, max extended wheelbase version is much better.

These seem to have far fewer issues than the new GM family of big truck based SUV’s

Sync 3 for $70k? No thanks. I wish my 2.7 had the boost pressure gauge... got my rear view camera replaced today...It seems to be a bit clearer but it could just be my hope but apparently the current Ford cameras aren’t that great? I’ve learned the boost, at least here doesn’t seem care about octane(87+) but it’s more about the heat... I got 23.4 in the Bay Area over the weekend on 87. Wasn’t over 85F! 😀 102 on the way home and downhill only 20. So hopefully cooler weather helps. Good review! Thank you sir! Tacoma review coming when it cools down a bit.

This may be a dumb question, but did you have it in eco mode while doing the fuel economy test? Was it in 2wd mode? Or do you think it should just get the fuel economy without fiddling with the drivetrain?
