This method works well for Blues and Rock. Listen to “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window” on Abbey Road or the tail end of “The Ocean” on Led Zeppelin V.
Jazz walking bass should generate a pulse because the bass player keeps time harmonically and rhythmically in Jazz, so the drummer can add pizzazz to the tune.
Classical walking bass is third or fourth species counterpoint 😉. If the melody goes up, the bass goes down, and vice versa.

I’ve always heard Chord Tone Passing Tone Chord Tone Passing Tone, instead of Chord Tone 3x and to my ear it sounds way better playing a Passing Tone on beat 2. What does everyone else think?
