I use Handbrake to test cooling. I transcode a large 1080p video to 480p that takes about 10 minutes on 32bit Rasbian to convert. (It converts in just 9 minutes on 64bit Raspbian!) Handbrake runs all 4 cores at 100% the entire time. My low profile Ice Cooler with fan has no problem with this nor does the Pi 400.

Great video, it gave me a baseline to compare the thermals in my Pi4 with (low 40s, after YouTubing and Netflixing, on an 8GB Pi overclocked to 2000 in an Argon One case). I think they did a great job passively cooling the Pi 400 although nothing can compare to that ice tower.

I made a simple case using 2 old credit cards, some stand off pillars and a 5v fan - keeps the pi at about 34 degrees, that's overclocked to 2147 as well. No heat sink, just the fan blowing. Cost next to nothing to make as well...and it looks neat.

I use the ice tower as well, but with a noctua NF-A4x10 or NF-A4x20 cooler IIRC... so I GUESS it's more silent lol. Also IIRC the 5V cooler ran at 3.3V as well so even less louder... been using it for years so forgot it hehehe (was watching retropie for rpi5 stuff and came accross...)

For notebooks exist active cooling stands with fans. Maybe this is an idea to chill actively the pi400.
Put the pi400 on the notebook-stand and turn on the fans. Would appreciate if you could have a look at this idea. If this will work, it means that pi400 could be cooled actively without any mod.

I would liké to make my homemade case using the argonM2's internals parts + the ice tower + the Sd adapter you love to use and the 52pi case to have all I/O on the back and that big fan on the front.
It would be a nice setup.
May be it's possible with some minor modifications on the case.

Cooling is great but I have to ask you just how long do you keep you pi's booted on average? My PI 4 looses it's connection with my USB drive after about 24 hours. It's very annoying as I have to power down multiple times before it finally reboots. I'm using Twister 1.9.2 right now and I'm wondering if there are still major issues with the USB boot connection...

How did you got roms and other os'es to work on the pi 400. Mine says start4.elf not compatible when booting with 2020.4 kali arm ver1.2 image from their official website.
I wanted to test some things.
Maybe you could make a tutorial to set it up for the next video. Love from India.

The pi400 us really THE solution, except for sound.

Try an ffmpeg video & audio transencode using “ ffmpeg -i myinputvideo -c:v libx264 -crf 20 -c:a aac -b:a 256k -ac 2 -y myoutputfile.mp4 “ and watch your Pi 4 start to get warmer. Replace “ myinputvideo “ with your chosen mp4 or mkv video input file.
