My blk male GSD has been raised with our goats and chickens. He looks at our livestock as part of the family and he’ll protect them with his life just like he’d protect us. He’s killed many foxes, snakes, raccoons and possums trying to get our chickens. Awsome breed no matter what gender!

Excellent video!. I have two Rescue GSD's. The large black male has bonded with mostly myself while the female has bonded with the entire family. The male is intimidating and quite protective while the female is much more gentle and friendly. Having said all that, the female will put the male in his place if she thinks he is getting too playful with our small dog or the kids.
The GSD is definitely an all round fun family dog, active, highly intelligent and fearless. I feel I won the Doggy Lottery when I agreed to adopt two adult GSD's I had never met. Amazing breed!

I have and have had, male and female German Shepherds. My females are incredibly protective of their humans and my Boston Terriers. My males watch the yard, but at the same time, they let the females do the work (as in the girls will bark first, and the males only get involved if they think the girls can't handle it.) So much depends on the genetics, breeding and training of these dogs. All my GSDs are incredibly bonded to me, because I talk to them constantly, and my hands are always on them, petting them. Czarina never left my side in the 12 yrs I had her, and now my Ophelia follows me everywhere, while the boys take a wait and see attitude.

I had both. I like the males for guard dog purposes. Many people back down just seeing them. The males can also battle other dogs if needed a lot better than the females. The females are good as family pets. They don't bark as much as the males and are very easy to train. My females were a lot smaller and lighter than the males. The females also eat less. My big males could really eat a lot.
Both will go after critters such as possums and coyotes. This is a very adaptable breed that is at home on the farm, suburbs or city.
Think about your purpose for getting this dog. A real downer is that this breed sheds fur. Also look out for hip problems.

This is very accurate! I have a female and a male. They get along GREAT! My female is very fast but my male is big and goofy 🙂

Great description of the female GSD. Ours is an absolute pleasure with everyone in the family and will tolerate people after a proper introduction. High energy and loves to walk and play. My only mistake was not socializing her with other dogs when she was younger so please do so with yours.

I have had both and have found my current male, THOR, to be especially social with people. While he definitely loves to bark in his big voice when someone comes to the door, if the people come in he quickly runs to get a ball to show them and enjoys being petted. He will get along with other dogs when introduced correctly. He is definitely a 5 year old puppy, but has be called very polite. At the groomer they call him the gentle giant because he is so good with the other doges. He is a healthy 110lbs, and people do tend to walk across the street when I walk him, if they don't know him. Great with my 8 grand kids.

I had a female and she was socialized from the time she was a puppy. She loved people and other dogs. She showed other female German Shepards she was alpha in her house. When she went into another dog’s house she acted very polite no matter if they were three pounds.

Wow that’s a new idea to do a comparison between female and male. Good idea actually

The only noticeable difference between my male and my female is that my male was more protective of me, while my female is more possessive of me.

How right you are! I've had Shepherds all my life and trained is definitely the best way to go. With lots of love either way. I saw a young family in the park today with a juvenile shepherd and were struggling to control him. Hopefully they will be able to get him to training soon!

I have 3 female shepherds! Ages 4, 7 and 10. They are wonderful dogs! Very protective of me but gentle with my grandchildren! I love them like my family

I had a female GSD, perfect dog. So good, I haven't gotten another, no dog could match her. She was very much like a human mom. She had great situational awareness, protective of her family, excellent around kids, smart as a whip. Based on the male GSD's I've been around, I wouldn't own a male.

I have 5 shepherds, 4 girls, 1 boy
They are all loving,
I have always had girls and 1 boy,
But I do prefer girls, love my boy as well, great loving companions.
Unconditional love.
Kept shepherds for 52 years, love them.

I prefer female dogs. I have had both. Female dogs are just smarter and easier for a woman to handle. Thank you!

Have a 7 year old female since 10 weeks old! Courteous, loyal, quiet but attentive, highly intelligent, easily trainable, great with everything and A true blessing in every way! Loves other animals. Quite the exception! I’m blessed ❣️. She’s nit big on being hugged tight but loves to be with everyone! Not a pushover though. Can sense people a mile away yet easy with herself. Has never shown her teeth or growled but she knows I’m also watching out for her too!

My female GSD is my constant companion she's like a Shadow. She truly is one of the smartest dogs I've owned. She is protective but not to the point of being Dangerous she will put herself in between new people and myself she looks to me for guidance to see if they are "acceptable" . My female is an exceptionally large GSD she weighs 93 pounds but is not fat she's a little bigger than an Average male. One thing people don't realize myself included GSD'S SHED ALL THE TIME! I thought my Akitas were heavy shedders they "Blow their Coats" twice a year but GSD'S shed constantly so get them used to being brushed every day
