My way of solution is:
9⁹⁹ - 9⁹⁸
= 9⁹⁸(9-1)
= 8×9⁹⁸

Looks like bad answer. Obviously that a*a-a = a(a-1). It cant be named "tricky". 9^99-9^98 = |9^98-9^99| - very "tricky" also, I recon.
