I would say the only thing that makes getting into PA school challenging (I'm currently finishing my first year) was having paid medical experience, vs med school only requires any type of medical (paid or volunteer). It's not enough to have paid experience either. You're essentially going up against people with sometimes thousands of paid hours. One thing I appreciated about this process was that my cohort had a variety of experience when it came to certain modules. My partner is a physician and she was the driving factor for me to go the PA route. There are no wrong answers in what you choose. Align your goal with what you're looking to accomplish in medicine.

Totally fair. Medical training definitely isn’t just about exam scores. But that’s kind of the point. If someone from a Caribbean school performs well on the same board exams and shows up with the same clinical competence and compassion, does the school name really matter? Med students all get there through different routes. What matters more is how we show up for patients and keep learning, not just where our degree came from.

On your point about character and compassion, there wasn’t much of it in how you responded to someone simply sharing their opinion. I have no doubt you’ll go on to accomplish great things as you finish med school. I just hope you’ll offer people a little more grace over judgment.

It's my understanding that it's harder to get into PA school because the career market is quickly filling up, but it's harder to actually get through med school.

I'm currently in PA school.

It's difficult but not equally difficult.

Very much disagree that PA school is as hard to get into medical school the number is artificially higher because there are a lot of pre meds and medical students (domestic/foreign) who go into PA school cause they either didn’t get into medical school and don’t want to try again or failed out of medical school and still wanted to be in healthcare. Medical school nowadays is next to impossible to get into much easier to become a lawyer or PhD candidate than a doctor cause medical schools care more about your grades than how you actually are with patients which no offense is why we have the most autistic group of physicians nowadays who can’t even hold a 5 mins conversation with doctors cause they can’t make any eye contact. It’s flat out embarrassing what medical doctors we turn out which is why PAs and NPs/RNs have significantly higher patient satisfactory rates than MDs/DOs combined.

I’m appalled at this guy. He is literally a Caribbean medical school graduate talking about difficulty of getting into us medical schools compared pa schools. My dude, you didn’t get into a US medical school, just keep your out of the system opinion to yourself.
