One year after the devastating effects of Japan's 2011 tsunami, Ocean Conservancy is committed to the issue of tsunami debris, and has a long-standing dedication to solving the larger problem of ocean trash. Ocean Conservancy is focusing our efforts where we can be most helpful- by monitoring and cleaning up tsunami debris along U.S. coastlines. Each year, Ocean Conservancy hosts the International Coastal Cleanup, where we collect millions of pounds of trash and gather data to help provide a baseline for the type of debris washing ashore. This data can help us solve the larger issue of ocean trash and ensure a healthy global ocean.
