Gallstones - Signs & Symptoms
Показать описание
Gallstones are hard, solid masses that are formed within the biliary tree, usually in the gallbladder.
They often develop insidiously, and may remain asymptomatic for decades.
Gallstone disease is more prevalent in women than in men.
Biliary colic is the term used to describe the pain caused by gallstones.
This pain usually occurs when the gallstones or sludge unexpectedly impact in the cystic duct during gallbladder contraction.
Pain is usually felt at right upper quadrant and epigastric regions, which may radiate to the right shoulder tip.
Episodes of biliary colic are infrequent and unpredictable.
Pain usually begins within about an hour following a meal.
It is an intense, dull pain, which typically resolves within 30 to 90 minutes.
As described by most individuals, pain is not relieved by simple analgesics, vomiting, antacids, defecation, or positional changes, and is usually associated with intense sweating, nausea, and vomiting.
Other symptoms may include, indigestion, bloating, and fat intolerance.
