The 2FA is more a problem than a security option in my opinion. I also lost my phone and with it i am not able to login into my discord anymore. I will never activate this again in discord.

I understand this is a secure method which may work if you're a trained programmer or something but for a layperson there is just so much risk. First of all, nothing is made clear and answers are hard to come by. For example, if I want to disable 2fas it is said that I must disable 2fa on the service and then delete the app....okay, does that mean if I turn 2fa back on in the service after deleting the app that I will be blocked out of my account? Or another..what happens if the app itself becomes obsolete I just must pray I remember one of the backup files or be blocked forever from my account? Also, is the file needed or just the string of characters or "secret key" associated with the service? Can I just write down that code and re-enter it in the future to regain access?
I am more worried about this app blocking access to my service than I am of the service becoming compromised due to bad actors.

I accidentally deleted the discord app and I didn't have the backup codes saved. Also my authenticator app was deleted.
