Deep breathing really helps when I'm super low, or overwhelmed with anxiety. And it's the very last thing I want to do when I'm feeling that way. If I force five breaths (and sometimes it's like moving a mountain, just to breathe deeply), the sixth is a little bit easier...and the seventh, easier still... go to twenty (or thirty). Then exhale at the end and keep it out for as long as you can. Then inhale and hold for fifteen seconds. Then you can either breathe normally or repeat again. It's called the Wim Hof method, and it REALLY works. Try it, friend. You are worth the effort.
