really helpful. This indeed shows how one should be ultra cautious even when academic presentation is claimed to support ones worldview. The instinct is to be gleeful one has found support but the best course is to be ultra cautious. Also, what an injustice to truly breaking claims that go against the consensus and are found to revamp current understandings

to be honest, if someone is so dishonest to make this up, they should not be allowed to go anywhere in 10km radius of the excavation. He seems like the kind of guy who would destroy evidences that are against his beliefs.

I can't think of any well known defixio from Palestine, but there must be some, but from the Hellenistic or Roman period, not 1400 BC (I think the oldest lead defixio is 6th, maybe the very late 7th century from Athens)

I would not want to die on the hill that there would not be any words inscribed on the lead fishing weights. The use of magic spells in daily life is very well attested to in the archaeological record, and it would not surprise me at all if some of those weights do have some spells on them.
