Growing up as a shy and timid person, learning martial arts was the best thing that has ever happened to me. It allowed me to break out of my comfort zone. I hated doing public speaking but once I started sparring with a 6ft+ 200lb+ man and got comfortable with it, public speaking became nothing. I still get anxious but once I’m on stage, I’m not as nervous as I used to be.

Two things: mental strength and the ability to overcome discomfort and resistance to stress. In today's comfortable times, where we are no longer naturally exposed to danger, people tend to degenerate.

Martial Artist are the strongest in the world!! That’s what I said when I was really young, seeing my first taste of martial arts culture. I still undoubtedly feel this way at the age of 39. Many around me believe martial arts is just violence and it’s nerve wracking to explain to people that martial arts is more than the physical aspect. I say all of that to say that martial arts and the martial artist lifestyle is great.

Yes, because if you practise a martial art, it provides a valve to release pressure and stress, making you more calm and relaxed. On the other hand: you learn, what damage can be done, if push comes to shove. And most people are deterred by the consquences. Which is a good thing and an explanation, why martial arts practitioners, who acutally know how to fight don't want to fight and try to avoid physical altercations as long as possible. Leading to a more peaceful attitude. Learning to fight in order to not having to fight. That is actually the highest form of Karate.

I´m a 165 cm/ 64kg man growing up in an insecure Mexican city. Always struggle about my size and my capacity to defend myself. Training boxing, muay thai and bjj for about 5 years now, and it makes a HUGE difference. It's not only about fighting, but it gives you the confidence to try new things...

Personally, the camp for a fight was so tough, that it gave me mental toughness which ended up giving me the confidence I was lacking to land clients on my business.

I didn't even ended up fighting due to an injury, but I realized I'm mentally capable of not only stepping out of my comfort zone, but sprinting away from it and staying away from comfort. And from there, my fears and insecurities when talking to prospects, really went away and I started landing more clients!

Thing is there's a video like this for virtually every activity. But we only have 24 hours in a day. People should do what they enjoy and find fulfilling. For me, that's martial arts.

Completely agree. I wasn’t unconfident, but since trading Muay Thai and boxing is healthily increased it. I think it’s across the board. I trained at Diesel gym in east London and the biggest collective of respectful people I’ve ever met is in that gym. Purely because of the confidence self security everyone has there.

I remember being around 15 years old in the local library, a man in his mid to late 20s was having a verbal outburst at the girls behind the counter, I was able to talk the man down from a state he was ready to be violent, and walk him out the door. Couldn't have done that without the calm confidence you get from martial arts.

At 39, lost my first in house competition. Best thing that happened to me. Lost many kgs from training but also have been a lot happier mentally past two years.
Couldn't say the same for various hobbies I've been involved in...

It was a way for me to deal with grief and depression. Now it's how I maintian my health, some degree of my discipline, and yes, a good chunk of my subconscious confidence. I can't think of a better way to train up young people to be better for the world (not saying it'll fix someone with issues, but it's a good start).
