To represent old school thrash metal in this special installment of the Then vs. Now series, I am joined by the riff battle legend himself TheSuffocater! Defined by fast, aggressive rhythms, chunky guitar grooves, and yelled vocals, thrash metal started as a niche subgenre and eventually rose to mainstream popularity with the help of bands like Metallica and Megadeth. Now, modern thrash metal bands have 40 years of history to draw from - do they stand on shoulders of giants and push the genre forward, or are the best riffs from the past?
