I believe the charging issue is related to the PD rating for the cable. Some of my older cables seem to not work with z9, but PD rated cables work without any issues.

Great review! love the details 😁 I love my Z9 so much. Only one critique but could be just me, your chapter transition "sounds" were slightly loud and made me jump once or twice lol. Amazing job overall! Thank you for the time you put aside to make this video (:

I’ve been using z9 for 3 month. It seems that it only accepts power from a charger or a power bank that supports PD charging.

Appreciate your time and effort put into this "overview" of the Z9's feature set. I've also had the camera since Jan. 2022 for sports/wildlife/action (dance). Summation statements: It is the best Nikon camera I've used for these activities except in low light / human action. I think most will agree that the D5/D6 images were cleaner secondary to the larger pixel pitch. From what I've seen of the Sony A1, for wildlife, it outperforms the Z9 (as might the R3/5) for animal eye detection and stickiness. All systems have their issues and the Z9 shines in many ways. The list of issues I have with it would fill the comment section, so I won't go into them here. I would definitely buy the camera again, but I think those considering this camera (prosumers) - that are not committed to a particular ecosystem, do you homework well. This camera has a huge learning curve for those coming from DSLRs. I would love to see you do a video on the issues you found to be problematic, and how you get around them. For example, which editing software you found worked with HE* the best (CO vs. Adobe vs Nikon Studio etc). The tendency of animal eye detection to find the eye, but then jump to the body when the bird turns it's head (compared to stay on the head). The fact that using WA S/L/C with birds on water allows the AF system to see what is closest (i.e. the birds reflection) and jump to the eye on the water. The fact that 3D doesn't work well at all if the object is small in the frame. The fact that any of the WAs get distracted by objects that may be closer in the frame. The fact that 3D may jump between two birds eyes (as will WA) or gymnasts etc. If the surroundings are busy with similar subjects, it can be a significant issue that many of us go back to DSLR focus modes on the Z9 and use dynamic small or single point. At this point, it sounds like I do not like the camera - NOT TRUE AT ALL. I just think people need to be aware that these are issues that my friends shooting both Nikon and Sony "flagships" feel like the Sony wins out on AF stickiness and accuracy. I continue to hope that Nikon continues its improvements in the overall system. On a separate note (and in reference to the last issues you mentioned - internal storage) - even a small memory storage inside the camera that would keep the factory reset options in addition to the user preset options (i.e. a place where bank setup modifications can be stored internally instead of saved to a card). Great - the camera is. Perfect, it is not. Again, thanks for your efforts. If you care to, a review in the future of issues and fixes would be cool.

I've had my Z9 for less one than 3 weeks.
No problems with USB C port.
Even charging via the Teather cable plugged into my PC with Capture One.

USB standards are a bit of mess at the moment .. so the cables. Contrary to beliefs there is actually a small PD chip in the cable (usually inside the steel casing near the USB C end) that tells the camera and the computer what it can support. USB 3.1 Gen 2 can support up to 40Gbits/sec and PD protocols. A good quality USB C cable without any of the usual snake oil would be for this camera.

No problem with the usb port on my Z9. Might be the power wattage from your power bank and/or the cable. Thank you for your detailed review.

Very good working review of the Z9. Thank you for sharing your use with the camera with so much detail. I’m sure it will help many people make an educated decision before purchasing. The Z9 is an incredible camera that covers anything you will shoot. Always enjoy your content and thanks for the shout out.

I don’t have a Z9, but my experience with my Z5 is that I couldn’t charge with the provided USB cable. I went to a dollar store and bought a USB C ‘Charge only’ cable. That solve the problem immediately. Hope this would help. This happened also to my Z50 camera.

I have had zero issues with your negative #1 nor #2... weird. #1, have you tried turning on the power up function? Page 745 in the manual.

The power bank and USB charger must be USB PD (power delivery) compliment. Not all are. Depends on its age and original intent. Most phones do not require it. Also Best if PD compliment to provide 30 W of power or more.

You have to use a usb c to usb c cable with power banks to get charge to the camera. It’s exactly the same with the canon r3. Usb C to usb a does not deliver the required current.
