MY TOP TIPS for CUSTOMIZING the Nikon Z9

After using the nikon z9 for 10 month And I have some favorite custom settings for autofocus and other great features. This is great tools for photographing birds and wildlife.

I use recall shooting function to toggle subject detection on and off if it’s having a hard time picking up the eyes. While in Maine shooting moose last month it wanted to grab the ears so I was able to toggle subject detection off and put my 3d on the eye and it stuck wherever I put it. I have fn2 assigned rona wide area and keep 3d main mode.

Hi Trond. Great video I have been using the Z9 now for almost a year and I love how customizable this camera is. I didn't know about pressing the Function button and it holding selected focus mode. I tried to set a 2nd AF option on FN2 button but it wont keep the focus unless I hold down FN2 button. I suppose there is no way to do this with a 2nd AF mode on FN2 without having to hold the button?

Like you had, I have Fn1 set to transfer to 3D tracking ~(from a wide area mode). With the default for custom setting A7 (focus point persistence). Does this A7 also apply when transferring via recall shooting functions AF Mode?

Hello, Westby!!, Is it possible to custom the preview (playback) of VIDEO to a button on the right side of the camera, like fn1, fn2 on the Z6 ? I could do that for IMAGES, but not for video.

Trend, you implied you didn’t have the customisation on your D500 as the Z9 but the D500 is one of the best DSLR’s for customisation. Okay it’s not as good as the Z9, that would be stupid for me to say it but I have my D500 set up to use the front function buttons so various AF Area Modes engage and track and I also use the record button and rear dial to switch to the extra crop mode. I can also press one of the function buttons to engage the display for image playback so I don’t think the customisation is night and day.
