(Links to tools and equipment used, in the description box below) In this video I show you how to install a wooden fence post, that lasts ! Slowing down rotting timber fence posts, MASSIVELY !

A wooden fence post is the first thing to rot, usually leaving the panels themselves with years of life left in them.

The most critical point on a fence post is where the post meets the soil. This is where moisture collects and with the added oxygen, rot thrives !

In this video I give you some handy tips on how to break out an old post and some key things you can do to prolong the life of your fence.

Concreting in a fence post correctly is the first step to ensure you have a stable fence post.

A post saver is key when installing a timber fence post as it prevents ground rot. These few tricks will ensure your fence posts last !

You know I've never used these. Did however used to add gravel to the bottom of the posts but seams pointless like as you say they rot at ground level.

Nice video pal 👍

I dont reccommend post savers. Ive replaced two posts in five years because of these. What happens is the bitumen dries out, eventually the plastic sleeve comes away at the top acting as a catch for water that runs down the post and just collects in the plastic thats peeled away. Both my posts snapped at exactly the point of where the post sleeve had peeled away and water collected. Better of using BlackJack, cheaper as well.

"For a six foot high fence, the hole should be at least six hundred millimeters deep...", I can't flip from imperial to metric that fast. You've given me a brain hernia.

I don't know how in UK you get them cheap, in US, they are like 20 dollar each, costing almost same as a 4x4 itself. it might make economical if there are only a couple of 4x4 posts to set, but if you have a lot of them, the tar sleeves are not economical at all :|
