Great tips, thank you !! I recently started composting my kitchen scraps in a 5 gallon bucket and with the current hot summer it looks like my compost is going to be ready to use some time !! I wasn’t sure how much to add to my planters as I have a small patio garden with flowering plants !! Your tips are what I was looking for. Thank you.

Thanks for info.

A question though; for barren soils that don’t already contain existing organisms within (in order to be able to take compost material down deeper into soil structure) why would it still be counterproductive to work it [compost] into soil as opposed to just top dressing compost on soil surface?

I personally feel as though, “working it” (compost) into existing soil, creates most exposure of compost surface area itself to soil and would therefore be a more beneficial measure to expose barren soil to needed compost amendment - rather than just top dressing and leaving compost on surface level of soil.

Would you kindly enlighten on this? Thanks.

Hi, like your show and videos, thanks for producing them. Question - you recommend using a mulch such as straw. Have you done any videos about Aminopyralid problems with grasses like straw?

Last year I had a large compost pile that the initial base was made of of mulched leaves from the fall. I added green vegetation periodically over the summer adding lots of water and mixing
I ended up with about 4 wheel barrow loads of compost which I spread over my raised beds and flower garden. Now I have all this grass like stuff growing every where and I keep pulling them out but they keep coming back. What do you reamend I do to get rid of this stuff that keeps growing back. Its like some form of crab grass?

If you have mulch and you want to top dress, do you remove mulch or just compost on top of it?

Thank you. If ground has been covered in mulch rested, would just pulling back the mulch (sugar cane), then top dressing be ok. Would you then just put back whatever mulch wasn’t fully decomposed as mulch or would you need fresh mulch and compost what was pulled back?

Hi Joe - This is great video. Where do you buy you compost from? I live around Atlanta area, I would consider buying from same, if the supplier is close by. Thank you for the information!

Dumb question but where does the compost go? Does it like... disappear? Do you have to take the old compost out before putting new ones in?
