I forgot to add that the pot should have a drainage hole/s

Without knowing much of anything about composting, I started a large pot like this with about 1/3 filled with dirt and threw in some kitchen scraps. I added a little more dirt and every so often I would toss in more scraps and a little more dirt. I would water it and toss it about once every two weeks. I now have some great looking dark soil. I’m starting a second pot while the first once finishes and I’m going to use the first one for my soil. In a couple months I will use the first one and use about half of it to add to my raised beds. My plan is to continue this method from now on.

Brother add some holes for more airflow. If you leave it like this, a part of your compost will have anaerobic bacteria, which don't benefit your plants.

A tip should you bake your own sour dough bread you can use the discard to add extra yeast and microorganisms to your compost.Add it to your water

I built my balcony plants through this method slowly. It costed me much less this way but took more than a year to slowly cover the balcony green.

Great! My “neighborhood association” prohibits leaving garbage cans, composters, etc, outside where it is visible. I have several unused large pots and planters that will be perfect for this! 👍❤️🌺

Actually after toping with soil later u can grow plants on it, the plants will grow nicely and below compost will get ready, I do it.

I know you're usually supposed to turn compost piles to ensure aerobic decomposition is taking place. It gets rid of the odor associated with compost and fosters the growth of helpful bacteria. Did you ever turn this one? If so, how often. Also, how often did you water it? Did you keep it in a sunny spot or a shady spot?

Thank you, I did this without having proper almost 2 months ago, it should be ready now I'm going to go buy some vegetables and plant them in it. awesome. It's nice to get confirmation and truthfully I didn't add much soil to it so nice to get proper instruction. Now I'm going to get several large clay pots and put them where they will get afternoon sun and hopefully Harvest some veggies. This disabled artist has come a long way on her organic Quest LOL peace and love everyone

my city in canada makes free compost from scraps we put in our green bins

I suggest adding worms to the bin, they really help break down the compost.

Yes, add egg shells, and also add plain cardboard shredded up. You should also stir it up everyday so as to not introduce bad bacteria’s.

Cut open the bottom completely. Plave on the ground. Cover with a lid. Turn every 3 days.

I'm starting doing my compost the same way😊

Powdered egg shell is beneficial rather than crushing them

Do the scraps start to spoil and smell? I would love to try this but I’m afraid that the scraps will spoil and attract nasty flies, bugs and rodents. 😰

When can I start using the compost for growing my vegetables?

If you convert your food waste into compost using a composting machine, can you just throw the produced compost into the yard?
