Just before people start commenting "That isn't a programming tutorial (grabs pitch forks)", I just wanna add this comment here to address those comments 🙂

As you may know, my previous channel name was "mmtuts", which was short for "multimedia tutorials". I'm aware that a lot of my subscribers came to my channel through my Web Dev videos, but I just want to remind everyone that the channel is at it's core about "everything multimedia", and not just Web Dev. 🙂

Thanks! Not exactly the solution I was hoping Adobe would have for us but appreciate this workaround.

It's even easier to say AE that you just want to import one of the new layers by clicking "import as: footage" and then "choose layer: ...". This works if you only want to add one layer of course!

Short answer: you can't. Just import all layers again, as you've been doing. 2:17

If you make changes to the foot in AI, will it update automatically in AE?

Awesome!! I am learning the ae now

And I also look forward to see others web tutorials, you are the first youtuber I learn web tutorials from since I started to learn the coding. Your explanation and teaching is clearly and I think the concepts is very useful for people who just learn the code

very helpful, thank you!
Is there any way for the layer to be imported without After Effects auto-placing the artwork in the center of the canvas?

Nice tutorial! I can`t wait for a PHP MVC project video. I'm new to MVC and I'm not sure about how to structure my projects.

Darn it, I was hoping this was a solution on a way to Force Reload the whole file/composition. This workaround is the strategy I already use, and it works fine. But wish there was a simpler/faster way as I find myself doing this a lot. It works with Photoshop, etc. files as well.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. When I re-added the same .ai file it did not include the new later (and yes I saved the file before attempting).

Thanks a lot for making this tutorial! I've been wondering about this ever since graduating my multimedia college program. I always resorted to making extra empty layers incase I ever had to go back and add more artwork to my illustrator files but now I don't have to :).

Great tip. Thanks for take the time to do, upload and share the video. Moving the new composition file (instead the .ai file) to the previous/final composition panel keeps the graphics in place.
