I really appreciate guy's like this. It's not hard to have integrity. It's quite easy actually. I'd take my truck to him anytime if it were something that I absolutely couldn't figure out. Thank you for your knowledge and being a stand up person.

I like this guy. Empowers his customers with knowledge to make the best decision instead of trying to take advantage of them. He would undoubtedly get my repeat business as a customer

Dang dude. I wish you lived by me. A single woman with no money can't afford to replace everything. I wish I had an honest mechanic near me. Thanks for being honest

4:20 That video of the sound vibrating was gold! I have the exact same noise but could explain the oscillation.

I’m an automotive technician and it’s my personal assessment that the differential shot. Have a nice day.

Holy smokes! That sounds like a grinding machine! The second I heard it I knew it wasn't a wheel bearing. In my experience, wheel bearings make more a smooth sound and humming as you go faster.

Well... you nailed that one. What you should do next time is scar the differential in a hidden spot so if it comes back and the mark is still there, you have documentation of this the dealership is now responsible for failure to honor that warranty and now the customer has legal options and a host of other things that are now in their favor.

Keep on being the honest person you are. There’s still a few out there but there’s way more who will take advantage of a person in a situation like this. I looked at this video twice and it was kind of hard to tell but if that tire near the beginning was mounted on the rear it looked like a directional tire tread and it was on the wrong way ( I couldn’t see the whole surface of the tire’s treads all the way across so that could possibly not be the case ). I have seen DIYers and even tire shops put the directional tires on the wrong way many times before.

Great tips to diagnose the noise. I just bought my wife a 2009 XC90 V8 77, 000 miles and she loves it(because I have one). The only issue is a humming sound when decelerating but it stops under 40mph. Only driven it a hand full of times. I replaced the differential fluid which was fairly clean and the sound is still there. Going to see if I get her off the ground tomorrow and take a listen. Thanks

Well that's definitely not a bad wheel barring. I swear every car I've owned I've had to replace those things. I can hear a bad barring a mile away. Great video! Very detailed and honest.

not sure why anyone gives this a thumbs down! You are great at explaining. I feel like I learned a lot and know more about what my issue may be as well.
thanks!

Wow!! Too bad I'm barely seeing this.. I was constantly servicing my Cadillac at the dealership... well 7 years of trusting them, I found out a few months ago I have paid for thousands of dollars of repairs...the dealership NEVER completed them... one was working on the both rear axle seals to prevent the differential from messing up....that's at least how the tech made the note...also I recently found out the dealership billed my warranty quite often for items I NEVER NEEDED NOR HAD SERVICED/Replaced....if only you were closer!! I'd paid you to fix it all correctly the first time.... anyhow, when you said it was too soon for it to have problems, it made me think she got screwed over just like me! Hopefully it wasn't by Sewell Automotive! Thanks for you informative videos!

I have a 2014 ATS. My rear differential went out at 73K. Got it factory replaced since then I’ve replaced my differential oil when I change my engine oil just to be safe. Now at 160K and haven’t had any problems.
