I have no automotive experience whatsoever but the animations make it pretty easy to understand. Limited slip means just that: slippage between plates is just enough to allow rotational velocity difference between the side gears. Thanks!

There is a word. That word is "the". It is an article. I get it now! It's all in the beveled gears! When the satellite gears get resistance from turning on one side it pushes against that side gear and that pushing effect locks the housing to that side of the axle.
