Excessive Rear Differential Pinion Backlash

Here is a demonstration of excessive rear diff pinion backlash. There is absolutely none of the typical other symptoms such as whining, roaring or any gear noise. I suspect it's just slightly out of spec and will do another video showing how to get the backlash back in spec.

did you ever figure out the problem? My truck sounds the same. When i first accelerate i hear a click and shift of weight almost, same when i stop. Also, when i shift into reverse it clicks. Anything helps, thanks.

Thank you for sharing this! I have a Chevy 2500HD four-wheel drive I thought it was the u-joints change those and still having the same problem, I was not sure if it was a transfer case or the transmission! And I was also thinking it could be the rear the differential the pinion gear, so can you shed some light on what you did to remedy this problem???
