Can A Hiatal Hernia Cause Shortness Of Breath?

A hiatal hernia is a condition where your stomach pushes up past the opening of your diaphragm.
The fact that hiatal hernia often results in shortness of breath or air hunger can be confusing.

How does your stomach affect your lung capacity?
The reason lies in the diaphragm. These are 2 dome-shaped muscles that have free movement, normally, allowing you to take a deep breath and then expel all the air without you needing to think about it.

The facts is: you shouldn’t have to think about breathing - it should occur naturally and automatically.

As mentioned above, a hiatal hernia involves a part of the stomach pushing above the diaphragm. When that occurs the diaphragm spasms to a degree, thereby compromising the amount of air you can easily bring in to your body.

The result is shortness of breath or air hunger. It can be quite concerning when you’re short of breath, especially when there seems to be no apparent reason.

The good news is that there is a natural solution for Hiatal hernia which involves no drugs or surgery and the issue with shortness of breath is addressed completely.

YESSS! I am an RN @ I had a patient come to one of my foot clinics & she had severe shortness of breath. Her doctor had her on 4 different inhalers with no relief & she was one big eczema rash from head to toe. Poor lady was absolutely miserable. I encouraged her to get a second opinion & go down to a bigger hospital with a good reputation in our area, and lo & behold - - they discovered that she had a hiatal hernia!! So severe that it was compressing her lungs & she literally couldn't breathe properly. She had the surgery to pull that stomach back down & she was able to get off all the inhalers except one for PRN use, oh and her skin immediately cleared up once she got off all the steroid inhalers. Wow was she ever happy!! 😃

I also have endometriosis and adenomyosis and I am convinced that it spread either to my diaphragm or lungs somehow… but I have pots so I don’t want to be put under anesthesia for any surgeries. My doctor agreed with me… so I am kind out of luck now.

This is exactly how I feel 24/7.
I have a hiatal hernia but my GP says it's not big enough to be causing air hunger.
I've had tests and my heart and lungs are fine. I dont see what else could be causing I other than the hernia.

Mine coming out paralyzes me. I have to go down on the floor and try to push it back in.

Doctor said no surgery because they come back. So just have to deal with it.
