How lucky is the space shooter genre to get two games that are decent back to back. It seems ages between the release of a good space adventure and now we have two, but which should you choose?

Everspace 2 will appeal more to those looking for a Freelancer-esque game, Chorus will appeal more to those looking for a StarFox-esque game

Never heard of Chorus, thanks, I just want to point out that Everspace 2 is good, Everspace 1 is a damn boring game

Had a blast in Chorus, visually stunning and epic story! Everspace 2 is more customizable, but at the same time you have less emotional attachment to your ship, simply because it's just a ship, in Chorus it's a sentient AI. And the ship in Chorus looks incredibly detailed and beautiful, cool factor to the top while still making sense. Specially my old 1080ti can run Chorus at 4K 60 fps stable!

So far I've noticed is that Chorus takes a while to get into but it gets a lot more action-packed.
Everspace 2 is more chill and feels more like an actual "space" game.

Great video, just started Everspace 1 and I’m loving it but Chorus was such an incredible game, 100% completed the game. Loved every second of it, I want more !!!

I got both and they’re both a blast!

Chorus has the space based psychic powers and an arc of redemption.

Everspace 2 has the ships and an arc of finding a sense of belonging.

Having a blast with Everspace 2 right now. If any of you are old enough to remember playing the game 'Descent' from '95 you will definitely feel like this is related to that. The sound, music, ship design, especially in FP mode. It all feels like a modern Descent game meets Wing Commander IV.

Playing Chorus and its amazing, i dont give a damn about variety and all that clunk just give me fluid combat and thats what i got with Chorus. Its very very good.

ok lol. Seriously why is almost all of the chorus footage of the first ship that you have for the tutorial, instead of the actual ship that you play as for 95 percent of the game?

Playing Chorus rn. I'm halfway. Compared to Freelancer, it's like a concentrated formula. Good graphics, combat and kinda interesting story. It's lacking on freedom, exploration, variety and sandbox elements. It's not a bad game at all, but far from the ultimate space game experience for my taste. I never felt like I was lost in uncharted space, that the world was alive or that I was making my own story.

I just want a new Freelancer (without changing the flight system) a huge, faction based, multiple system, free play LoL

I have spent YEARS trying to remember the name of Freelancer. I had a demo version on my PC waaay back in the day, and I haven't found a good replica game since. I wish these two games were merged, at least the best parts of them mixed together.

Another game from my past that just fills me with Nostalgia is Airfix Dogfighter. Nothing like flying a model airplane through the house while dropping bombs on toy soldiers. Would highly recommend playing it if you can find it and get it to work on Windows 10.

Good take.. I actually have both games and agree with most of what you have said with this.

I am about 9 hours into Chorus and about 28 hours into Everspace 2.. I am not sure which I prefer so far.. both definitely have their pros and cons (Chorus "drift" is frustrating but practice makes perfect) Chorus from what I gather only has TWO playable ships.. the one you start in and the one you move to (excluding the ship you control temporarily in some missions) whereas Everspace 2 has a much wider selection of ships AND the ability to customise the appearance of your ships by taking visuals of different ships and merging them to design your own (upcoming feature not yet added, it is EarlyAccess of course). With linear.. Everspace 2 does have a story progression but I wouldnt call it linear as such.. sure the story is the story and no multiple choice in it.. but you can wander off Freelancer style and do whatever you want.. save every time you dock and leave a station.. Chorus you cant save during a mission and sometimes it appears you are not in a mission but it wont let you save.. or a mission will auto carry onto the next and its a case of guessing when you save.. graphically.. I think it is kind of hard to distinguish which is better visually.. I am playing on an RTX3080ti on ultra at max resolution for each game on a 50" screen.. and visually.. its hard to choose which I prefer visually.. both are very good. Length? Everspace is far longer I think.. I am seeing Steam reviews of Chorus of people finishing it in 20 hours.. Everspace 2? Barely out the first region with that many hours. If you like space shooters I personally would recommend both!

Chorus vs Everspace 1 both don't run well on legacy PS4, but run them on PS5 and hey presto problems disappear. Frustating when games were released on PS4 and poorly optimized. It takes an entire next generation to solve the games performance problems.

Good video, I'm downloading both demos now, will probably end up getting both just in what order. Squadrons would've been awesome with a sandbox mode in a Starwars universe & more detailed ship systems.

The trailer for chorus did not make it look like a sandbox game. It made it look way more linear and story driven. Currently addicted to Everspace 2, but Chorus is on game pass, so I'm going to try that next.

Movement between the two games is surprisingly different, just being able to strafe with the left stick makes everspace feel more naturally intuitive moving my vehicle around in a 3d space, but chorus is emphasizing forward momentum to use for drifts.
