Great review! Chris Nolan is about the picture quality--his movies are awesome, so he forgiven. You are right to enjoy non object based movies or what Iike to call older generation encoded movies.

Buy this one: “12 Strong”. With Chris Hemsworth. It’s only available on Blu-ray now but the Dts HDMA 5.1 track is OUTSTANDING!! Incredible LFE, all around amazing track. Trust me. It’s a demo disc.

I’m surprised to have not seen Saving Private Ryan on that list. Btw check out some of the older Disney movies that’s just on regular Blu-ray. I think they had, have some of the best sounding movies even way before DTS-X, Dolby digital or Atmos ever existed.

Two I like that are both in DTS HD master are both the Sherlock Holmes movies. I’m surprised they didn’t upgrade the sound track when they did the 4K discs. Both mine are still Blu-ray. The way a lot of the sound moves all around the room is impressive.

Thanks for the suggestions! I heard you mention DTS Neural X... My simple setup can do 5.1 with atmos speakers or 7.1 without the height speakers. I have found that DTS Virtual X sounds better when using 7.1. I suppose its the addition of the simulated height effects. Do you use Neural X because you have actual height speakers in place?

How dose the room sound with Apple Music in dolby atmos have you tried it yet since you have front wides.

Because I think Apple Music makes some music that supports front wides speakers.

Not sure what movies are object based or not, but my recommendations:
Midway (super surprising!)
Mad Max (newer one)
Live Die Repeat/ Edge of Tomorrow (opening, and the drop and all beach scenes)
Pacific Rim (Yeager action, bass management is superb)
Fury (Tank battles, the Tiger.... )
Baby Driver ( all driving scenes, the opening scene )
A Quiet Place ( directional placement )
Greatest Showman ( Musical score: Never Enough )
Ender's Game ( The final attack is legendary )

Disappointment that should have been better:
Maverick : Its front stage enveloping at beginning of movie was perplexing, use of front channel was horrid with music.
