That dog was in defense mode, he didn't break eye contact he was ready to fight for it's owner. This is why dogs are a mans best friend

Why even ask your dog what he is doing? The moment your pet is acting strange and focusing on something then you better be vigilant. it's night time grab something, shut your mouth, and prepare yourself for whatever that is making your pet do that.

Absolutely right! They're marks and growls attempting to drive something away. Then there is this, dead silence. He was completely aware of you, where you were and what you were doing, but he was totally focused on springing between you and Eustace that was, ready to fight to the death to protect you.

I'd suggest getting hold of your dogs collar and don't miss, then slowly back away pulling him with you. Don't turn your back, don't run. Go on silence. And walk your dog before dark from now on.

When I was a boy, my grandfather had a dog that froze like that. He ran inside to get his gun. Because that’s what you do. Protect your dog who’s protecting you by staying there froze.

Now, see, you have 2 main forms of warning from a canine: loud and confrontational and then there's what this dog was doing. This form of warning is worse. It's clearly all bunched up ready to act, it's highly focused, it's ears are fully alert, its tail is in a non aggressive position and most notably it's dead silent. In short: it's ready to burst into action but hoping it won't have to.

That was a mountain lion. I've seen one looking at me just like that as I patrolled around a fence of a storage property middle of nowhere. I was glad the fence was between me and it, was the size of a large dog, but I knew the fence wouldn't stop it but for a few seconds. I went back to my vehicle and got in and stayed inside for hours before getting back out. Only reason I knew it was there was because I shined my flashlight around the grass of the fence and it's eyes shined

The dog is protecting you. If it breaks eye contact, then whatever that is (bear or mountain lion) will absolutely attack.

The dog could clearly see what that phone camera couldn't. Dogs eyes (and even human eyes) see better in the dark than most video recording devices, especially phones, unless they have IR lenses.

One thing to note is only predatory creatures have eyes in the front to be able to judge distance better during predation. Prey animals have eyes on the sides on their heads like deer to have a wider field of view of danger.

Could be a bear, a wolf, coyote, raccoon, mountain lion, a big foot or a number of different other kind of animals but the dog is doing his job and you should go get a gun or something to protect your dog who is protecting you at the moment by not breaking eye contact

My dog did this too when we were confronted by a mountain lion. She was half wolf and a wonderful family member. We survived the cougar encounter but age eventually took her. RIP Cocoa 😢

This lady's camera footage did a better job at creating a suspenseful little horror scene than alot of the popular A+++ movies. I was moving my head along with her to see what was around that corner as well. 😅

There are 2 rules in life regarding animals. 1, if the tail is still, don't pet it. 2, if you call your animal and it ignores you because it's looking at something you can't see, then shut up and pay attention. Animals are very sensitive to teprature fluctuation and vibrations. At times, they can see things that the human eyes can't. Everyone knows their animal and if it's behavior is off, then pay attention. It could save your life.
