Saint Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, I have heard this from several of my friends. Fantastic city and architecture, definitely a destination that everyone should visit, and I am planning one for sure.
What thrilled me the most in Russia are the Russian markets, huge, very huge, I have never seen such big markets in my life or on film. There you can find everything you want. Only Asians on 50 meters of stalls sell hundreds of different types of Asian salads, from seafood, various mushrooms, fish, vegetables something you can't see anywhere in Europe. You can walk around the market for hours and you can't see everything.
The other thing that surprised me was the hospitality and household of the Russians, there is as much food and drink as you want and what you want. I was visiting Russians at home, but also with Russians at restaurants. It was always lavish and tables full of everything. And the Russians always give a good speech!

Victoria, it's so nice to hear that you are adjusting fine to the Russian culture. I'd say that it's not so easy to love Russia but if you fell in love with it, it's for life. As for affordability I spent the whole last year in my home city in South Russia and my total expenses including rent, utilities, food, internet, phone - altogether was $ 400.00. Good luck to you!

Great video Victoria, enjoy your winter. I'm a russian living in Germany and we had some snow two days before christmas, so I was allready exited to have "snow white chrismas" here and right at the first day, everything was gone and we got rain and dirt (what we had for the most part in the past years). Watching your video makes me miss Russia a lot. The snow, the clear air.. so you guys enjoy yourself.^^

Tomsk is quite near Novosibirsk and if you want to visit this city, it has a lot of interesting building, very cool wooden houses, university and other things, I have some friends from Novosibirks who absolutely loved it here, they said that Tomsk is beautiful. So, welcome whenever you want to visit us. :)

I can't stand the fake friendliness of the USA, I worked in the financial district of NYC and everyone you pass by says "good morning" or "How you doing" in the elevator to total strangers, then you have to respond back with the same. Its so annoying and tiring. They don't know you so they don't care how you are doing, yet they still say it. In my country you don't talk to total strangers, you don't have to even acknowledge them. You just go about your business.

I’m happy you’re enjoying Russia so well. I live in the US, but have had the good fortune to live in Germany, England, Japan, the Philippines, & Thailand. Every country offered amazing things I love and some things I could gladly do without. As you travel I’m sure you’ll see the same.
