The thing that finally ended it for me wasn’t the screaming and constant criticism and insults it was her complete alienation of any physical affection toward me and lack of saying “I love you” or even saying I love you too if I said it to her. If she loved me at all I couldn’t tell.

I just served my wife of 37 years. Kids all adults and gone. I told her to take 1/2 (Texas) and I was leaving. The crying and weeping started. She says she does not want a divorce. Of course, she never controlled her weight leading to all manner of health issues and the bills are bankrupting us. Plus she has never had any control over her general spending. It gets old paying between $3000.00-$7000.00 credit card bills every month. And I make the money working 70 hours a week at age 63. Sorry, marraige was the biggest mistake I ever made. Unhappy and agitated Western women misled by rabid feminism. This combination has destroyed the family. My son is 25, a computer engineer, making excellent money. He has no desire to be married and does not even have girlfriend. What in the world really happened?

Divorce while you are young. Do not wait. Do not hope that with time she will be more humane and tolerant, she will not, she will get worse. If you meet your love, just quit, no matter if you are married or not, it will be a torture anyway later, kids will grow, and you will always be with a person who makes your life an eternal hell ... I met my love, but she got very sick and died young since then I am wasting my life with someone who constantly turtures me, but I am too old to start a new life... Just a couple of years left, hope it will end soon..

I told my wife "i am done pursuing you". I let her know as kind as possible that she has been unhappy no matter what and would look for things to complain about. There was no point for me to pursue her as i was not the reason or the solution to her unhappiness.

About a week later she came at me with "i feel like im the only one pursuing in this relationship". I told her i was holding my boundary and that this is what it feels like for me to not pursue you. i talked with her more and she said she was doing more for our relationship. I had to ask what the "more" was. she said "SHE WAS TALKING TO ME MORE". i had to take a long breath and point out that what she was doing by talking to me more, was a normal thing in a relationship.

Lucky enough! She seems to have moved the needle on her outlook of what it is to be in a relationship and has been giving kindness to me again!

My mom needed to hear and see this over a decade ago. To this day, she blames my dad for everything that went wrong with their marriage and to her credit he had many demons that no one should have to tolerate. That being said, she is so blinded by how much she ruled the home and made all the decisions (one of the stated reasons she left dad, in fact, was he had no spine and made no decisions) yet will continuously blame him today for controlling everything and never allowing her any decision making. Make the woman’s brain make sense to me, because it’s almost like reality and the woman’s mind are 2 completely separate entities.
