I joined the US Army in 1986. In Basic training we caught the last end of the Famous C Ration. Then we received the first of the MREs in the old Brown wrappers. Then in the 90's we got the newer tan wrapper MREs. We they've progressed a lot in the last 40 years. This is a short video talking about how we used and ate MREs. Not a taste test. that's coming in the future. But this is how we carried, used, and ate MREs. Nothing what those tasting them have every explained to you.

I've bought a couple of cases of HDRs, and I really like them... here in Canada, it is hard to find things like tuna in a packet (just cans here), etc... But the market is expanding.

The 80's chicken AL la King was one of my favorites as well. By the way, those small beverage bases, are water bottle sized. Take a sip of water to make room, add base and shake it up. Great video!

Hi Mike, thanks for the video. I haven't yet tried them, but recently bought a few MRE's. I had heard that the soldiers like the Chili Mac ones. I was able to find one. I also have the chili with beans and a cold weather MRE that comes in a white pouch. I have heard that the heating elements that come with them don't always work. I guess if your heater crapped out on you, instead of eating it cold you could put the ration bag in your canteen cup with boiling water to warm it up. (I've see people on YouTube preparing foreign MRE's that way. I think I would rather just open the packet and dumping the food in my canteen cup and heating it up with stove or fire. But then you have to wash your cup out.🤔

How do you look like both members of Tenacious D at the same time?

Mike i don't think they have exp dates on the package, mine never did. I think the number is a code to the production lot or something like that. Probably traceable... maybe google it? I was addicted to the pound cakes that were in them. Yum 😁
