For the heating pack, you're meant to put the meal packet inside of the heating bag for "proper heating". Nonetheless it's one of the better MRE's and it's a welcome sight on an FTX.

When I got the Beef Pattie MRE back in 1986 (I was USMC) it was a completely de-hydrated & inedible BRICK! I'm glad to see that they've made a lot of major advances in food-tech since then!
