David Lynch was always an admirer of Kafka and even considered making a film out of The Metamorphosis. Ultimately though, he realized that wouldn't be a good idea, although the possibility was always there. Until recently. RIP.

RIP David Lynch. I really do mean that. The world lost a lot with the death of this man. Truly one of the great artists of our generation.

I love love love Mulholland Drive and definitely is, as Jesse’s mascot friend would say, “Kafkaesque!” Would definitely be interested in the Metamorphosis video, thumbs if you agree!

David Lynch made the world wild at heart and weird on top. And we shall be forever grateful to him.

Nice tribute to both men. I would also be interested in the proposed Kafka study. Thank you for your work.

Last year in 2024 was the centennial anniversary of Franz Kafkas death, so in tribute to him and his work I read a good deal of his works. The Trial, America, metamorphosis and some of the short stories. It is almost a synchronous happenstance that David Lynch being an influential figure in his own right, as well as heavily influenced by Franz Kafka, would die the next year. So it seems to me fitting that I follow through with a tribute to David Lynch and watch a bunch of his movies and TV shows. RIP for both of them, and may this world be ever stranger because of them.

Beksiński's painting perfectly fits as a thumbnail of this video, well done!

Last week, at Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Germany, was given "Der Process". - The first words tell everything about life: "Jemand mußte Josef K. verleumdet haben, denn..." - It's there, it's always there, we all know it and we cannot do anything about it. (Except reading KafKA, watching Lynch movies...)

If you like Lynch, you'll LOVE Kafka.

"The Metamorphosis"
"The Trial"
"Before The Law"
"The Hunger Artist"
"The Penal Colony"
"The Castle"

All great stories/short stories.

Definitely recommend reading Kafka! And would love to see your Metamorphosis video (and more Kafka videos in general). Auf wiedersehen!

Another Czech whose works would make beautiful Lynch adaptations is Bruno Schulz (there's actually a Polish adaptation for The Sanatorium under the Hourglass Sign which is awesome).

I think recent "Beau Is Afraid" is an overlooked Kafkaesque masterpiece.

I love Franz Kafka and I love David Lynch (RIP David 💔).
In my opinion the Kafka work most suitable to be adapted into a Lynch film was not the metamorhosis but instead the Castle ("das Schloss").
Why?
Because the metamorphosis is a finished short story, a very precise and concise piece of work, while the castle is an unfinished book, without an end but with lots of interesting material with which Lynch could have played.
I would have been very curious of the final result.

I suppose the closest thing we have is the 1993 movie adaptation of The Trial staring Kyle McLachlan.

I disagree with the point that we shouldn't try and figure out the meaning of David Lynch films, just as long as it is our own interpretation. Lynch himself noted that the most important relationship is between the veiwer and the film, and no two screenings are the same.

Most people refering about abstraction and Lynchian moment don't understand what Kafka, Lynch are talking about, because they are part of the people Kafka and Lynch are telling about. Not the main character, but the others.
