A few years ago I was looking at starting my own you tube channel, however because of work commitments etc I couldn't find the time. Roll on to today I am so glad I didn't start my own channel because with the huge changes that will be enforced from Jan 2020 from COPPA, this new legislation which is not you tube's own policy changes this has been forced onto you tube by the government. You tube just paid a $170, 000, 000 fine from collecting data on children through ads on you tube channels, they didn't contest it as they knew they was in the wrong. With the new rules which state that channels that appeals to children which to be honest would be at least 80% of you tube, these channels are going to be hit hard, a lot of channels will be shut down. There seems to be this belief that it won't happen or just by simply submitting your videos as 'Not for children' that things will continue, it won't, because the new rules state channels that appeals to children and when you look at the categories that covers, as i said its the majority of you tube.
So content creators have 2 choices, submit your videos that are suitable for children but by doing so the videos will not be monetized, no ads, no comment section, no like button, or submit as not for children, however if their is anything that can be deemed to be something that appeals to children the creator will be fined $42, 000 per video if they try to exploit ad revenue, or they have to delete the video or change it to children content!..
There are so many that are been ignorant about this and continuing as normal, they need to get prepared, this is why its dangerous to rely on you tube for an income, people have given up their jobs to earn a living on you tube, which is very risky, to those that have made some serious money if I was them I would shut down my channel and enjoy your earnings, if I was trying to earn some serious money forget you tube, that time has now gone!.
