YouTube recently made some really weird updates that have nothing to do with watching videos. Let's investigate.

⏱️⏱️VIDEO CHAPTERS⏱️⏱️
0:00 - YouTube community posts
0:50 - Community posts on home feeds
1:55 - Community spaces
3:25 - Is this good or bad?

The pros of having a small channel is that you can have a small and cozy community to interact genuinely with, without having the trouble of thinking of moderation etc.

My fear is that this is inching YouTube one step closer to the same format as every other social media platform, furthering YouTube away from what it made it distinct from the others in the first place

Youtube is truly trying to fight every social media platforms at this point

Background looks like something from the 70s 😂 and it's too busy. But you always stand out Rob. 💯

How about YouTube just does YouTube? Stop trying to be tiktok, stop trying to be Reddit, stop trying to be threads. Just do YouTube well. Maybe that’s just me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Youtube seems to just want to keep taking opportunities away from long form creators. They gave a chunk of the homepage to shorts, then started placing sponsored ads on every third block that was left for long form videos, and now they're giving more of those blocks to these social media style posts. Long form creators are hurting, myself included. It's no wonder why many long form creators are adding more ads, downsizing, and in many cases quitting after years of hard work building their channels. I film events and I'm tired of viewers asking me why I stopped posting videos when I've been consistently posting one or two videos a week. It's time for YouTube to go back to being YouTube.

Honestly I like your old background, gives you a lot of credibility and personality. But honestly, regardless of the background I’ll still watch the videos because you provide a lot of value 👍🏻

If community spaces can be restricted to members, then I'd say it would be a valuable addition. The absence of something like that is one of the weak spots in their membership UX.

I almost never look at the homepage. I go straight to what I'm looking for from the search bar.

According to my analytics, I already received 1 subscriber because of the community posts, I see nothing but a big win here ❤

YouTube should really focus on the main reason why we love YouTube... it's Videos..

not shorts
not community posts
although they are nice features.. they should never overtake videos otherwise youtube will lose their identity and their core audience and will replace them with tiktok and reddit audience and they will end up fighting each other then move on to twitter to fight properly

it means one more social media item for small creators to have to monitor and moderate.

It makes sense. Facebook “Groups” is the main thing holding that beast together. (That and the fact that it’s a place for families to store their family photos for anyone to see…even after they are gone). So creating something like “Groups” on YouTube makes sense.

I just unlocked MONETIZATION! Only with Shorts views and that's been an incredible journey I'm so so happy
Thank you so much for every advice you gave me <3

I hope we can delete posts on the page. Cuz trolls will LOVE this if we cant control it. I'd rather have Direct Messaging back...

On my 2 old channels there USED to be something like that… it was basically a section on the main homepage of the channel where followers (might have been mutual followers, but I was kinda young then & really didn’t pay attention to those details) could post comments. I don’t know when they went away but they were definitely there around 08-09

Not exactly surprised Youtube is trying to turn into Reddit... they're kinda turning into a gaming platform as well right now

I have started to really use the community tab lately! Making posts, quizzes and polls. Hopefully I get some traffic to my channel!

Something has definitely happened with algorithms recently. My videos would previously start really slowly then take off after a couple of days in terms of impressions. Now, despite the stats for my videos being good, the videos have a great first day and then die. Barely even in double figures for impressions after that.

I love the community tab, it’s a way to engage with your audience without creating a brand new video.
