*Update and correction 14 April 2025:*

At the time we were led to believe that _both_ the new 2025 monitor panels (27" 4K and 27" 500Hz) featured the same new EL 3.0 panel structure and technologies. As a result, we labelled both of these panels as "Gen 4" in our own naming scheme, with Samsung Display themselves no longer officially referring to the panels by generation. The updates in specs, including to the brightness for the 27" 500Hz panel made sense with this new EL 3.0 material expected.

More recently in April 2025 Samsung Display have contacted us to correct a point about the new 27" 500Hz panel. They've confirmed now that this particular panel does not actually use EL 3.0 material and is officially therefore an update to their Gen 3 panel from last year (27" 360Hz version). It still uses EL 2.0 but updates have been made to the driving circuit to allow for an increased refresh rate, and to the organic material that have enabled a higher brightness to be achieved. We have now updated our written article to reflect these corrections and the naming schemes for each panel and you can find corrected images, tables and information here:

I rarely see such a great quality content on YouTube, presented in such a structured way, with clear progression of the technology explained, the pros and cons, and typical outcomes. A fantastic work, very informative, keep it up team!!

Great vid, appreciated the custom infographics and appreciate you keeping me in the loop on upcoming display technologies.

Felt good about my decision to buy a 4k 240hz QD-OLED recently knowing that a major upgrade isnt about to come out.

got a gen1 ultrawide and absolutely love it. very disappointed in the lack of news about ultrawides (not superultrawides, that's too much)

A real step up would be a polarizing layer that would solve the raised blacks in ambient light.

While I was hoping for updated 32-inch 4k panels, at least it means I don't need to wait any longer for my next upgrade. Thanks for the update!

First time viewer here. Loved the video, Thank you.

I own the Gen 34" G8 & its been amazing. Tv when I need it and Monitor when I need it. Being an OLED Tv owner I still pick the monitor b'se I get to sit and turn it on without turning on my PC lol.

Cheers for the run down. Will there be any updated WOLED, 16:9 monitors in 2025?

I ask because the Asus PG32UCDP would be perfect, if not for its high input lag when running 60hz content - a common occurrence on consoles and even some PC games (e.g. Elden Ring).

I was hoping Asus might release a revision this year?

Thanks for the detailed info! I'm looking for an OLED monitor and considering two options: the Dell AW3423DWF (Gen 1 panel) and the AW2725Q (Gen 4 panel). Both are priced similarly in my country. From what I understand, Gen 4 panels are more resistant to burn-in compared to Gen 1. Since my usage includes 8 hours of productivity work and around 4 hours of gaming and HDR media consumption, I’m really torn between these two. The 34-inch would give me more screen space for multitasking, while the 27-inch would offer better text clarity. Even if I go with the 34-inch QD-OLED, my biggest concern is long-term burn-in, especially since Gen 4 panels seem to offer better durability at the same cost. I’d really appreciate your thoughts and advice on this!

I'd love to see Samsung offer an updated version of their curved 55" Odyssey Ark gaming monitor using their new QD-OLED tech (glossy - NOT matt screen). That would be absolutely stunning for civil and combat flightsims.
