I think the issue really is the storage, like 64gb is too little for a media consumption device. I had a 256gb storage ipad 12.9 m1 and i already consume 95gb of storage less than 2 months of use. If you bump up the storage of the air to 256gb, you are in the pro territory. The way apple prices their ipad line is nasty. They had this psychology warfare with their potential buyers to in the end go with the pro line. Also the 120hz may not be important but it does improve your experience especially if all your devices are running at higher refresh rate. I got a laptop that runs on 244hz and a phone that runs on 90hz so having a device that runs 60hz sticks out like sore thumb.

I saved my money and got the Air 5 Cellular with 256GB of storage. I’m a trucker, so I can appreciate the 5G signal it gives me. ProMotion isn’t enough to upgrade, and I can do important work on the A5 just fine. The M1 will handle anything I throw at it for years to come. If I have less storage after use, I can use iCloud. All in all, a great purchase for me.

Dont forget that the pro has thunderbolt. That is a HUGE deal if it matters to you. If you want to use the ipad for video editing or any other content creation, you can quickly transfer files on and off the device. I wouldnt ever pay the apple tax on a 1 or 2tb ipad, but with thunderbolt you dont need to.

If you dont need it, obviously it osnt a big deal, but I choose the pro over the air for that reason.

I used to have an ipad 7 and, to be honest, it stopped working because my storage was full (64gb). 2 months ago i got the ipad air 5 blue color and apple pencil and i think it is better than ipad pro because the ipad pro is too big, which is easy to break.I am so happy with my new ipad because now it has a storage of 256 gb! Which is a huge upgrade from my old ipad of 64 gb.

The logical step up from an m1 is straight to the m3 pro and something else.

Nah Bro, that comparison take is wrong.. the lack of pro motion, is exactly the reason I sent back the Air 5 after one day and ordered a Pro 11 instead, when I switched from my iPhone Pro Max to the Air 5 i was just dissappointed in how it feels, no matter which display I look at, I need that 120Hz and it‘s so outdated not to have it in a model like the Air 5, but correct I think i dont need the M2 but the lack of Face ID is also a reason I went for the Pro

I see a few differences in Pro vs Air. Promotion 120hz, better battery (Air I believe has worst battery life of all Ipads on the market even worse than the massive 12.9" pro!), brighter screen, better camera (meh not a big deal), faster lightening connection (but Air isn't that bad either), 4 speakers vs 2 speakers, Face ID, etc. Now it is still dependent on if those are useful to you or not, if not then ya Air might be better. But for me, the 120hz refresh (I notice it since I work and game on high quality monitors and my phone is 120hz) and the longer battery is enough for me to jump up, especially if you get Certified Refurbished, its literally a $30 increase to get the 3rd gen Pro vs 5th gen Air same 256gb storage. But not everyone is comfortable with Certified Refurbished as well so to each their own.

But what if you have a 120hz phone and get the ipad air will it be annoying and noticable?

yep air 5 all the way unless you really prefer the 128Gb Pro base model

i was going for a cheaper 256 air and its awesome to have 256Gb for a more affordable price since i dont mind lidar, 120 Hz or the M2 at all
