Toyota told me “too bad”, and would not help. Honda is the much better company.

Take Toyota to small claims court. They will always settle out of court!! It only takes time and $70-120 to file. Don't let the corporations off the hook, fight back!!

BG makes a product. Comes in 2 parts. BG #109 and #110. Part #109 is put into the engine crankcase before changing out the old oil. Run for 20 minutes to get hot and allow the product to clean oil rings etc. After that, change oil as normal.

Then fill crankcase with new oil and add part #110 to your new oil and leave it in till next oil change. Recommended to use at least every other oil change. Should help your problem, if not completely it will help reduce oil consumption. I did it to my 07 rav4 which was burning through a lot of oil.

Although this did not cure the problem completely, it did cut the oil consumption in half or more. Mine has never been rebuilt either. In your case, having a rebuilt motor, this could possibly take it back to when the engine was rebuilt before it gets to far gone again. Just a suggestion that you might want to consider.

Thanks for sharing your update. Hope the rav4 last you a long time.

Yeah I just bought a 2008 Rav4 2.4 Base and found out about this and the oil consumption. It found out when for the heck of it decided to check the oil 2 or 3 weeks after I got it. It was 2 quarts low. I am ticked, they did extended Warranty that ended June or July 2018. I wish more people especially the website I found of people all with same issue would call Toyota and file complaint. Try to make it a complete recall. I heard about the BG stuff and was going to try it .

I have over 50, 000 miles since my rebuild and I'm not consuming one drop of oil. So maybe the person who did the job on your car messed something up? Or maybe your car is leaking oil from somewhere else.

This was just brought to my attention today when I came in to get an oil change. They’re are doing the rebuilding of the engine for free but they want to charge to change the top part of the engine. This doesn’t sound right to me since it’s a warranty enhancement they should cover everything. Am I wrong or should I pay for it?

First, you say you are checking the oil on a cold engine. You should check your oil once the engine is at normal operating temperature. Take the car to a gas station and check your oil on the level gas station concrete filling area as that will be a perfectly level area. You say you are adding 1 quart of oil after 5000 miles of driving, I would say that is a normal situation.

seems like the repair is a hit or miss depending on who did the work / did only part of the work of that needed to be done. In any case, Toyota should have done more to remedy the problem.

Back to oil consumption after the rebuild???? At least you got the rebuild. A lot of owners didn’t qualify for the rebuild.

But you are only burning 1 quart of oil every 5, 000 miles which is awesome and normal.

You can use Amsoil to help with the slight oil burning issues, but your oil burning isn’t even that bad anymore.

I never got the rebuild and able to cut my oil consumption from 1 quart every 1000-1200 miles to 1/2 quart using Amsoil Signatures Series.

I was using Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Full Synthetic(not a real synthetic oil since it’s a Group 2 oil with additives)

Use a Group 4 oil like Amsoil and you will see a difference
