New update from the FDA regarding anti-choking devices — an ER doc’s take….

If you live alone or are alone and choke the de choker device I believe could be a life saver. Even if you’re able to call 911 you can’t speak so you’re screwed.

My grandfather died from choking but I never thought it could happen in my own family…until it did. Luckily, i had basic first aid training so when my 12 year old was turning blue and choking on a hot dog it kicked in. Back slaps didn’t work but the Heimlich did. The piece of hot dog went flying across the room and my child was ok. Scariest moment ever.
Recently I’ve been wondering if i should put that device in our first aid kit, just in case. But, knowing the traditional route worked and hearing this, I think I’ll wait.

agree 100% with this, basic CPR has been proven to work, if that fails then try these. Great advice!

Why on one video do tons of people comment “choking” and here they just comment “guide”?

I'm a 75-yr old vet with PTSD and live alone. I have no family and only rarely have a visitor, thus if I choke, there is no one here to assist at all. Suggestions? Would one of these devices be worth a try in a DESPERATE cocking situation?
