Doug Batchelor REJECTS Ellen White’s Vision?! (The Apocrypha in the Adventist Church)

In this video, the question of whether Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) should read the Apocrypha will be looked at by examining what Ellen White herself had to say on the topic. The SDA church is mired in controversy and Adventist debate over whether one should read the Apocrypha, but what is the truth as per SDA and Adventist tradition? Doug Batchelor of Amazing Facts Ministries has spoken about his belief regarding the Apocrypha. How does it compare with Ellen White?

I like how quotes are even on the screen to prove the misquotes of the video creator here. For instance, "Ellen G. White says do not separate these books from the Bible." But the quote on the screen says something totally different which make the 1st statement false. She actually just said that we should take note of those books. The actual quote said nothing about not separating it from the Bible. Changing a few words here and there is exactly what Satan has done. He did this even while tempting Jesus. The creators of this video might mean well, but the end result of the video is obviously inspired by Satan.

In the devotional 'From the Heart', Chap 6, a compilation of EGWs writings she references the apocrypha of the New Testament and their account of Christ as a child. She states, "They relate fictitious tales and frivolous miracles which they say He wrought, attributing to Christ the senseless and needless display of His divine power and falsifying His character by attributing to Him acts of revenge and deeds of mischief which were cruel and ridiculous. FH 230.2...They are not at all in harmony with His character. They are more after the order of the novels that are written, which have no foundation in truth, but the characters delineated are of fancy creating FH 230.3 They are not at all in harmony with His character. They are more after the order of the novels that are written, which have no foundation in truth, but the characters delineated are of fancy creating".

This doesn't sound much like an endorsement for the usefulness those texts to me?

Im interested in anyones thoughts on this.

We should be very careful not to misinterpret her vision. She says quite clearly that the Bible is the standard book by which we shall be judged. She goes on to say that the apocrypha is the hidden book that the “wise will understand;” not referring to human wisdom but to a divine revelation. “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” (Deuteronomy 29:29) The Revelation is a secret that is only revealed to those who seek after the Lord with all their hearts… “He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.” (Daniel 2:22) “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.” (Matthew 13:34-35) “He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.” (Matthew 13:11-15) The whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation is a parable that is speaking about the SDA Church at the end of the world… " Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:” (Psalms 78:1-2) We must first understand the Bible (all the parables) before we can even begin to understand what is hidden in the Apocrypha… “And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?” (Mark 4:13) “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” (Revelation 2:17)

"The full meaning and significance of the E. G. White statement of 1850 is not clearly seen. It should be observed that Ellen White makes no reference to the Apocrypha at any time in her writings in the subsequent 65 years. If what we have is a correct copy of what she wrote, and at times there is some uncertainty as to the accuracy of some of the statements bearing these early dates, at no time subsequent to that, did she have occasion to call the attention of the church to the apocrypha to urge its reading or to explain its significance. This being the case, our counsel would be to give the matter a minimum of attention. Surely the silences in her published writings on this subject carry significance."

All that this kid is trying to do is criticize some very fine men. This, self-proclaimed "biblical scholar" shouldn't get a second of our time. I've NEVER heard a single word uttered to build up. All he can do is try to tear down.

I'd suggest that Matthew Korpman read the Youth Instructor April 1 1872 paragraph 1-6 where she says particularly new testament apocrypha is uninspired, of the same class as fiction, ridiculous. Old testament apocrypha is also unispired. Just because a few texts have been used does not mean they are inspired. I mean, she also quotes historians like Josephus and his writings are unispired.

I am guessing u want to write a dissertation on Apocryphal and u are culling all the knowledge you can on it, well, its a good idea cuz it has always been your point of concern instead of the inspired word of God, u adore the uninspired one that came in After the BC and u claim its inspired? Be careful unless u dont care about heaven but world acclaim.

The apocraphy [apocrypha] of the New Testament attempts to supply the silence of the Scriptures in reference to the early life of Christ, by giving a fancy sketch of his childhood years. These writers relate wonderful incidents and miracles, which characterized his childhood, and distinguished him from other children. They relate fictitious tales, and frivolous miracles, which they say he wrought, attributing to Christ the senseless and needless display of his divine power, and falsifying his character by attributing to him acts of revenge, and deeds of mischief, which were cruel and ridiculous. {YI April 1, 1872, par. 1}

Lots of instances of false should any Adventist keep trying to fit into the biblical definition of an end time church while believing her falsehoods? Clearly they won't respect God's word over EGW, though claiming otherwise. ???different levels of Christian???we believe her here, but not there???the early fathers of the church believed this, or that??? Move on sheep.

The so called "quote" from "Ellen White" "manuscript 5, 1849" does not exist.
I went through all her writings and searched. The quote in the video isn't there. This is a blatant lie. But anyone familiar with Ellen White's actual writings, would already have known this was a lie because that is not her writing style at all. The style is completely off. She wrote with a poetry and prose surpassed only by the King James Bible itself. Whoever wrote the choppy, repetitive mantras in this quote, has more in common with the new age occult than with the revered prophetess of Adventism.

Seems tobe that Korpman is more interested in critizing every little detail of others rather than sharing the Gospel of YESHUA JESUS. Mark 9: 38 -40. Do not folloew others blindly ( that includes Ellen White ) serms thats what Korpman is atempting to do. Critizing everone that doesnt agree with his understanding of what White wrote ot did. Strain at knats etc. U shsll know them by thier fruits.
