One way to know if you're working with a scammer

I've been contacted on ACX by buyers who wanted to either take negotiations offline immediately, or make a deal completely in the DMs, without any formal offer through ACX's "project" interface. If not for a prior episode where you mentioned scammers, I would have fallen for one of them. I'm so grateful you share your experiences with us.

I was contacted by a "VP of Operations" at a company in the US that has asked me if I would be interested in working with them doing VO on a meditation, health and diet app. The company is legit but the person's name almost unpronounceable. This doesn't make it a scam. There certainly can be someone there by that name. It just has that little bell ringing you know? I found this company online so I might give them a call and see if this person actually works there.

Some a**hole on Upwork asked me to read (audition) a sample, then took it and dipped off the platform. When I call the phone number in the script, guess who is on the other side? A RECORDING OF MY VOICE RECITING THE AUDITION SCRIPT!!🤬

How can that client just get away without paying though? Before you can place an order, you need to pay for your order first. You can only get the refund by cancelling the order itself 🤨
